The minimal tailights on our Cruiser and their tendency to burn out bulbs has made me insecure, particularly when on busy Freeways. So following the lead of several others I added LED lights These are 7", 31 superflux LED lights. These are similar to the lights used on schoolbuses. Rather than replacing the original lights I added these. The lights mount flat on a foam gasket. I drilled a 1" hole and tapped into the existing wires. Seehttp://www.princessauto.com/truck-tr...-transit-lightOn sale $23. each. This should make my intentions obvious to anyone behind me

Nice job! My Kingston is only about 4 months old and I've already had to replace a tail light. However I'd be more interested in a direct replacement cuz the old bulb problem still is there and like you said I'd like to be certain the lights are working. Any ideas on an exact replacement?

Looks good. Like you say, they should be able to see you now.

calliopeguy:
You might want to look here for a replacement.

CWIT, The LEDs are much brighter, I found it difficult to photograph the lights properly. The camera does not see the same itensity as the eye.

It would be easy to just replace the originals. There is a 2" hole behind the lights and plenty of wire to work with. So any light that is over 2" in diameter will cover the hole. The original screw holes would have to be patched. The 7" light I used would cover all. I kept the originals to provide as much light as possible.

I have to be perfectly honest and please don't be offended but I think it looks like s***. It looks like an old trailer from the bush that had to have running lights to trail it down the road. Just curious as to why you didn't just replace the existing taillights with the new LED type. Sorry but it just doesn't look nice on a newer rv.

Don't know about where you are but here all installed lights must work when inspected wether or not they are required to be there. So with your set up the old lights must still pass inspection even though you have the new ones installed right above them. Kind of defeats the purpose of the LEDs.

CruiserJoe. I dont quite uderstand your post. Both sets of lights are operational for maximum visibility. If a bulb does burn out I replace it.

I guess I missunderstood, thought you were adding the LEDs so you wouldn't have to deal with the bulbs burning out. I would have removed the regular lights and just went with the LEDs.

Led lights are significantly brighter and come on to maximum intensity much quicker than incandesent lights. Bargman makes a great looking flush mount LED assy and although not cheap they fit very well into the hole after it is enlarged somewhat. It makes a great looking job!!

Pegger,

Looks good! I've been thinking about LEDs for my trailer too.

On a trip to FLorida, wedrove in a heavy rain that blew one of my bulbs. Lucky it was only one. Didn't know about it till the next morning when we checked everything before hitting the road.

The thing about a replacements is the left side also lights the license plate. So one needs to find a LED that also does that or somehow add a seperate lite for the license plate. That's what hasbeen holding me back from a LED replacement

By adding the LED instead of replacing the exsisting ones, you solved that problem.

Bill and Karen...I put new LED lights on the back of mine. They have side markers and the left one has a license light. It covered the old screw holes (mostly) and work great. I will look up the brand and model number of the light tonight. It might be what you are looking for,

OOPS!!! My bad, I completely forgot. The model was TLL-16RK and I bought it off of an Amazon storefront for about $50.00. I removed the license plate bracket and discarded it as I have a custom one. I remounted my bracketflat on the back of the rig. Besides, the angle of the original bracket was wrong for my application. Other than that, the lights work great. Good luck.

I found a great deal on LED tail lights at Harbor Freight on sale for $40.

I wanted to replace the stock tail lights but it appears that they are held on to the trailer primarily with the caulking. The 4 screws do not feel like they are drilled into anything solid like wood or aluminum. They will not really tighten up when turned.

For this reason I am hesitant to try to change out the assemblies. the new LED lights are a bit heavier and the back side of them are designed in a way that I'm just not sure the caulking would support them.

Any ideas??

Blind anchor's will work. You can find them in the sheet-rock aisle.

Because I read this post I checked my tail lights after going through a heavy rain and found that the left one had burned out. When I took it apart to replace the bulb it was obvious that water had gotten to it causing the problem. I also discovered that the lights do not have a gasket to keep the water out. I like my Cruiser but I am disappointed at things like this that could be prevented with a little effort from the manufacturer. If I can't find a way to keep the water out I'll be following many others and replacing the lights.

Don't be too hard on Cruiser, 80% of towables use these lights. One thing they didn't do was use a foam or rubber gsaket for the wire runs to seal off water. I took the caulking gun and pressed the tip into the wire run hole in the coach and filled it in. I don't need water in there.
