Camping World of Wal-Mart seem to have the consistent low price on the "Q".

We have a Charbroil Big Easy oil less turkey fryer (Amazon$95.) I cook turkey, chicken, sausage, ribs, shisk-a-bob, fresh vegetables, baked potatoes and more. Never have to worry about scorching food or burning it.
It is about the size of a five gallon bucket, easy to light, uses very little propane as it cooks with infrared heat. I have been cooking in it all winter in really cold temperatures and it takes a little longer but does awesome job of sealing juices in.
Check it out:charbroil.com

We too use the Big Easy but just at home for turkey, chicken, tri tips, etc. It does take a little longer than a BBQ but to your point, keeps things very moist.
Been tempted to take along, just haven't done so yet.

Thanks for all the great responses. This has been a great discussion and I appreciate the input.

Looks like there will be the Q200 and portable stand in our future!

I may be late on this conversation, but we have always bought the cheapest one we can at Wal Mart. We use it for 2 or 3 summers, then chuck it and get another. The more expensive ones never seemed to last any longer...so I gave up.

Depends on the type of cooking your doing. Weber Q is awesome..

For family cooking I bought Camp Chef MVP..its made for tailgating.

http://www.campchef.com/stoves/two-b...-chef-mvp.html

I've got a crew of boys here..so most of the portable grills didnt provide enough cooking area.

Pros
It gets really hot...25K BTU's
large cooking area
use either 1lb canisters, or buy an adapter for 20lb tank.
good for cooking with pans and pots
built to last...(see cons "heavy")

Cons
It gets really hot fast...leave lid closed for too long and it will melt the handle
heavy...
expensive...i bought my online through walmart for 260. Our local sporting goods store has it for 199.

Camp Chef is the premier camping stove company, sot their stuff is made to last. I am on my second unit. First version got even hotter...problem was if you had a pot over the edge in the front, it melted the heat control dials...they sent me another free...

We have the stainless steel one similar to the one the others talked about that is available at Sam's. We got ours at Costco, different brand, same basic kind. The price is around $110. My husband likes it because it is easy to clean and also it does not rust. This is the grill we use at home as well. It is plenty big enough for our needs.

I might as well chime in to your original question about the portable holland grill. This is one of six grills I have in my collection...a point my wife does not let me forget about. The mini-holland(I also have the regular size version), is a good grill for slow cooking and smoking food. It runs at a constant temperature, so it takes more time to cook most items, but the flavor is good when using the smoking pellets. I have upgraded twice since the mini-holland. A coleman red Roadtrip grill with the non-stick griddle(this is the pancake cooking machine most people are familiar with at the factory rally), but have since also gone to the Weber-Q 220. I have also added the cast iron griddle and have had to upgrade the regulator as well.
The Weber is hands down a GREAT grill. One of the first things I would do is to upgrade the factory regulator with a regular gas grill version. The weber regulators tend to be real finicky when hooked up to anything larger than those green disposable bottles. The grill will be much more reliable and cook faster as well. The cast iron griddle is another must have for breakfast duties.
So, depending on where I am camping, how many I am cooking for or what I will be cooking determines the grill selection to be put in the truck....

Count another vote for the Weber "Q". Like Clif, I picked one up at Wally World this past weekend. A Q120 w/stand for $100 (closeout)! Just two of us as well. Will be making the appropriate revisions to hook up to the trailer connection.

I don't think these can be modified to remove the regulator for use with on board propane. Since the new units all come with on board propane connections after the regulator you would still have to use a separate tank or run a new line from the propane tanks before the regulator.

Not true. The regulator on the road trip is rated at 15 PSI. The regulator on the campers are rated at 11 PSI. If you do away with the road trip regulator all together you actually have a drop in your available BTU's, but it can be done.
