Well don't I feel silly.

Thanks for the heads up Russb. I have never seen that document before.

Eric, the TECH I spoke to missed that little nugget of information.

I wonder if they may have revised their installation guidelines since I bought and installed mine.

Also found on the second page of that new to me document......

How are Surge Guard devices different from standard surge protectors?Standard surge protectors do not provide protection for over/under voltage or open neutral conditions.

That’s why I wish I’d had this forum back in the day. So, easy to learn information from fellow campers that we had to learn the hard way.

I can still vouch for the Progressive Industries EMS. I hardwired
to my new camper in 2006, it went bad 10+ years later, sent them
my original sales receipt and in no time they sent me a brand new
complete EMS replacement at no charge and when I sold our
camper a few weeks ago it was still working, so I think I need
to give them a plug, I hope they have not changed since then.

I have the hardwired Progressive EMS unit. I'm on my second unit as I sold my last RV (30 amp) with it, and got a 50 amp version for my current RV.

I have the watch dog. If the dog is happy, I am happy. Also cable locked.

Same here on the Watchdog by Hughes. Bought the 50 amp version cause I can use it with 50 amps on the Reflection or transfer it to the Fox Mountain which is 30 amps and use a 50-30 adapter. Just got back from a two month trip in the Reflection where I used it on 30 amps. Only ran one A/C even when the temps got in the 90s in AZ. Cooled great even in the bedroom. 50 amp cord stayed in the truck bed box as it is so much heavier to wrestle with. Kinda neat that I can switch the EMS between rigs and secure with a cable lock. Been working great.
