Generator usage

Question for the boondockers or generator experts.

I have a dual fuel Champion 3500 generator. It has 30 amp output/outlet. Our Sunset Trails is 50 amp. I’ve plugged it into 30 amp tombstones with the adapter. I’m concerned with plugging into the generator.

Can I do this without risk to the converter? Do I need to do some other wiring?

My concern is frying the converter, battery or something else.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Bob

By that statement I'm assuming you are referring to The electric pedestal at a campground?
If that's the case---it shouldn't any different plugging into your generator using an adapter. 30 amps is 30 amps.

Do yourself a favor and get yourself a surge protector. It will tell you if there are any issues with the generator or AC shore power supply you’re plugging into. Plug into the power source first then look for any faults before plugging your rig in to the cord.

Also the biggest power draw is the AC on start. They make a soft start capacitor to do a slow start on the AC, or just run 1 at a time. That should prevent problems with surge and draw issues.

Kicker, I have that generator, and it does everything I need it to do.
That being said, I have 30 amp.
I have a friend that has one, and uses it on his 50 amp with the adapter plug, with some exceptions.
You will need a ground bonding device to run your RV.. Google it, it's an easy thing to do with simple plug from your home improvement store.
I would strongly recommend an EMS surge protector, any place you plug in, even home.
Last, you will be limited in what you can have turned on at once. You can only run one A/C unit, and not much else while running. You got 2500-2800 watts. No toaster or microwave or hair dryer at the same time.
We love ours, you may just have to adjust a little to use it.

Build your own bonding plug. https://youtu.be/iFpm04iJdGw. And I agree to get a surge protector. I recommend the progressive industries. They are guaranteed replacement. https://www.progressiveindustries.net/

Best option is get an EMS (electrical management system) rather than just a surge protector. The EMS protects from most any electrical issues not just surges.
An EMS & an adjustable water pressure regulator should mandatory with all RVs.

Progressive Industries is an EMS system. The EMS-PT30X & PT50X. I’ve owned two, the first was the EMS PT-50C. I had one problem with it due to water getting in and shorted it out. But it still shut down and protected my 5er. I contacted them and they sent me the newer version EMS-PT50X which had a plastic rain shield. So, they definitely stood up to their warranty. Hard to find these days. Here’s a picture of both. You can see why the rain/weather shield is important.
