Modifications, queen to king

IMG_0273.jpg

We decided to sacrifice a closet in order to have a king bed. This is still a work in progress but is coming along nicely. Our unit is a 2013 Sunset Reserve, FB which we purchased last year. After spending a month in the Sunshine State, we knew the queen mattress would have to go!

That is really a neat project. Any chance of getting more pictures, especially on the right side where you took out the closet?

Here are two more pictures. Hubby screwed a furring strip on the right side of the wall and extended the bed platform with pine boards to support the king mattress. IMG_0269.jpg

Nice job, but looks like a real PITA to make the bed or whoever sleeps on the right to get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night or maybe you're still young enough that that's not a problem YET.

It's definitely not going to be as easy to make up this bed as it would be one that has room at both sides but I think it will be manageable. I will be the one sleeping on the wall side and if I need to exit during the night, it will be from the end of the bed. There's ample room at the foot to get on and off the bed. Neither one of us gets up during the night unless it's to let the dog out. We've been lucky so far!

Looks great but after 10 years of sleeping up against a wall I'm SO glad our new unit has a walk around bed.

Is your new bed a king? Enjoy your new unit, how exciting!

That's why I say I'm roughing it when we go camping. Leaving the king bed at home and sleeping on a queen. Ah the torture of roughing it. Lol

When I start to snore, I get sent out to the inflatable bed, and it's only a twin. Now that's roughing it in an Rv.

Look's great. Did you have any trouble getting the mattress in?

The only king mattress we could fit through the door was a gel foam. Ordered one from Amazon and made sure it was in place before we unrolled it. After two days, it was fully inflated and ready for use. So glad this all worked out, there's no way we can package it to return!

Looks great!
I have a few questions about the "closet" you removed. Is there anything left on the back wall? holes or glue from closet wall? Also, how about the top of where a nightstand would be?
Did you just chop the closet to make the upper cabinet?
I want a nightstand instead of closet and would love to do what you did!
Thanks,
Joe

Attached is a picture of the back and side wall. No glue on the walls but there are screw holes remaining on the back wall. Side wall is clean. I don’t have any photos of the floor of the closet, which I assume you want to use as the top for a nightstand? The upper cabinet where the closet was previously, is the top shelf of the original closet. We just trimmed out the front to make it look more finished. Hope this helps.
