New back bumper!

Well, I did what you are not supposed to do. I put a bike rack on my back bumper. We traveled about 2200 miles without a problem but one time I walked around to the back and found that the bumper was just about to fall off. I took the bikes off and put one in the trailer and the other in the back of the truck for the remainder of the trip. When I got home I had a welding and fabricating shop tear the old one off and put a heavy duty one on. The new one is all 1/4" steel and should work. He removed everything back to the frame because the factory metal was very thin. Probably added about 100 lbs to the rear end. I'm very happy with the job and posted some pictures to share. I also had to remove my rear stabilizer so he had room to work. I'm in the process of re-painting it before I put it back on.

Thanks! A great photo-series of before, why, and after! I believe the new setup should hold the bikes just fine!

Glad you found it before it fell off.

You need to post those photos in every thread asking about mounting anything to those flimsy bumpers. They are only designed to hold a sewer hose.... And it will rub holes in it!

No, he doesn't need to post those pictures in every thread. We get enough double posting without encouraging more.
All that would be necessary would be a link back to them.
