Smile Noisy hot water tank

Every time we turned on the hot water. Had a funky noise coming from the basement/hot water tank. After further investigation & Google searching. The backflow brass fitting had worn out. Replaced with a new one from RVAdventure parts house. Good as new now.

Never had one fail. Good to know what to look for if it does. Thanks.

You should check it anyway to be sure it's brass, on my previous SOB it was plastic & cracked due to weight of the lines hanging off it, made one big wet mess.

We are on our third check valve. I'd be happy to purchase a quality valve with a metal plunger.

Is there anything to worry about using a brass one in an aluminum tank?

After asking this, I got to wondering what I had in my heater. Just went out and looked.
CR must have had a little extra money back when mine was built. They installed a brass valve.

My original was brass but the RV dealer in Cody only had plastic valves and it didn't last very long. So, now we are back to a brass valve with a plastic stem.
Unfortunately it's the stem that fails. I'm tempted to install either a swing check or a ball valve. It's there for not allowing the winter antifreeze from entering the cold water plumbing and since I'm under there with the pump bypass I may as well just turn a ball valve.
