Shower cold water back flow fix.

Researching on how to fix the issue where when you turn on the shower head you get cold water for a few seconds.

I really like the RV shower mizer. Great idea and solves the issue plus some:

But the install in my trailer will be a pretty big pain due to how its laid out.

The second solution is to change out the mixer to a thermostatic shower valve. Obviously not as cool as the mizer but done right it looks really good.

Third is to add in a back flow valve to the water lines. This looks super easy and is the cheapest solution.

Wondering what anyone on here has done this, and if their is any other solutions I have not found.

Have had the same issue in every rv we've owned for the past 40+ years, some hit you with hot water some cold. The fix was hold the shower head away from you when pushing the "on" button, easy & cheap.

Holding the shower head away from our body is exactly what we do as well...Everything else seems to me like a lot of trouble just to avoid a couple of seconds until you can turn the water on yourself...

I wasn't trying to be a wise a##, just stating I never thought of adding some gizmo or gadget for the couple seconds to equalize the temp.

Hi, I just put a backflow preventer (Camco 23303 1/2" Back-Flow Preventer - Lead Free $7.33) on the HOT water line right at the fixture. Then added a shutoff valve (KES K1140B-2 BRASS Shower Head Shut-Off Valve G 1/2, Brushed Nickel, $8.80)
inline to the shower head. Problem fixed. Can now turn the water off and no cold water when turn it back on.

The problem seems to be the cold water pressure is greater than the hot water pressure. When the shower is shut off the cold water pushes into the hot water pipe. Then when it's turned on you get cold water. The backflow preventer stops the cold water from going into the hot water pipe. The shutoff valve is so you don't have to mess with the cold and hot water valves every time you want to shut the water off during the shower.

Photobob - Yea thats is what I am going to go with also. Ordered the KES the other day. I will probably go with a SharkBite back flow for ease of installation.
Man I would really love to get one of the ShowerMizers but the installation would be a massive pain.
