Our HT38FL came with a RCA surround sound system, which is a piece of junk. The speakers are two-ways,built into the ceiling and actually are not too bad, but the receiver is terrible. On volume level 1, it's too loud, anything higher it just sounds like .

I want to replace the unit with a higher quality one but am restricted to the size of the compartment where it's located, it's only about 9 1/2 inches deep. Has anyone else replaced their surround system? What make and model did you purchase?

Thanks in advance,

acutally, JVC makes a smaller slim line receiver. Also, for a little more money, Marantz also makes a small compact receiver.

Replaced the stupid RCA surround with a 1000 watt Sony Blu-Ray Surround system. The front of the main unit sticks out about two inches from the shelf but since the controls anddisplay areon the top of the unit it's okay. Still using the ceiling speakers for the surrounds, but mounted the mainson the wallson either side ofthe TV and the center channel speaker above the TV. They're barely noticeable until you crank it up! Will post a picture if I remember to take one!

I replaced the unit in mine with the Bose Wave, a great system, infact we bought another one for the house, very compact, we got the multi disc player and the sound is fantastic, well worth the money, and if you want when your not camping you can just take the unit in the house..

Guess I can't post an image unless it's on a server.
