In our 30SK all the switches are behind a door mounted to a kitchen cabinet. Unfortunately the kitchen and dining room light switches are in there also. When it's dark it's really hard to see which switch to press to turn on these lights. To solve this problem I ordered a string of LED's from SupreBrightLED.com and installed them on the door.
At first I thought they'd be cool around the inside frame of the panel but that just didn't work. After some experimentation I found that the middle of the door was about the best place.
The strip of LED's that I had were way too bright so I cut all but six LED's off the strip.
The LED's have double backed tape and I just stuck the strip to the door.
I got the power from the awning switch inside the panel. I installed a magnetic switch into the cabinet and a magnet into the door.
Here's what it looks like.

Now when you open the door the LED's come on and it's easy to see the switch titles.
I don't have the wiring tied down to the door yet but will take some clamps with me the next time to the trailer.
This mod was quite simple and my DW thinks it's the best one yet

I really like this mod but want to use it in the pantry. I end up using a flashlight to see stuff in there. Where can I get the LED lights and the magnetic switch?
Cool mod.

In my estimation, one of the most useful (and well done) mods yet! For the sake of us that fall into the Klutz area, could you post some more pictures showing the wiring connection? Is the awning motor 12 volt? A little more info on the "Magnet Switch" would be appreciated also.

Keep up the good work

Thanks for all the kind words!
I got the LED strip from www.superbrightleds.com. The magnetic switch came from Newark but I don't believe they sell retail, I could be wrong. Radio Shack might have them or I guess Google "magnetic switch". The switch was about 3/16" in diameter and 1" long. The magnet was too long for the door so I cut it down and works OK. Since it is a magnetic actuated switch you could use almost any magnet like the ones off a discarded Sonicare Toothbrush Head.
I put the switch into the cabinet and the magnetic into the door. The wires were run to the awning switch which is 12 volts. It used the two end leads, black and white.
I hope this helps clarify this mod a little bit.

I did the same thing a couple of years ago with these. They are battery powered, install with double stick tape and have the magnetic switch built in. Very easy to install where ever you want. I put one in the switch cabinet, medicine cabinet, some in the pantry and any other dark cubby I could find. I've only had to replace the batteries in a couple of them that get used a lot. I haven't had to buy any batteries yet, as they sent extras with the lights and I still have some of those.

Arlyn, those are very cool but I don't think they would fit in my application due to their size. I'll keep those in mind for other locations. Thanks!

Ken, Nice mod! I was thinking about doing something like that, just wasn't sure what. Your mod gave me all the details I need. Ordered my LED's last night. Should be here this weekend. I'm having trouble finding anyone locally that has the magnetic switches, though. I might have to orderthat.

I did the same thing in my cabinet on our 2008 ST27RB with a light from IKEA called a Dioder. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50126605

Works great. In fact, I'm going to get a few more for the inside of our pantry and the inside of the "garbage can" cabinet.

After thinking about it; I went online searching at ebay and purchased a pack of six LED magnet lights for $ 5.00 w/ free shipping. I think they will work great. Their battery powered but with the magnet switch and LED I think they will last a long time. Crossed fingers anyway. Deputydog

Hey KennyB or anyone else.

With regards to putting in a magnet switch and LED light strip into out Switch Cabinet.

Has anyone done any research into the actual rocker switch itself? I mean, can it be replaced with one that already has a back lite type rocker switch? hence it would be illumined then!

This is similar to my set up as it still works on 12V without shore power.
