Also found this. That wrench would have stopped me from killing the plastic plug.

Here's a good video on anode rods.

Does anybody that owns a Cross Roads camper have any thing other than an Atwood water heater?

Here's what I ended up doing today. A 1/2" x 1/4" reducer bushing, a little Teflon tape, and this valve from Ace Hardware. Notice in my picture the valve is tubular, but in the Ace picture it is block-shaped. Space, as you can see in my picture, is at a premium! No anode, after reading about Atwood aluminum tanks. Thanks, guys! P.S. I had to take the valve apart to thread it into the bushing, then with the valve stem opening facing up, I was able to place the valve piece in place.

All companies use water heaters or awnings or furnaces...etc. that are cheaper for them at any time. CR went from A&E awnings to Carefree to A&E again with in 3 years. money talks.

Meaning that Atwood are in them now , but that could change if suburban gives them a better bulk price.

So putting the one with the anode in the aluminum Atwood is not an issue, right? Doesn't help but wont hurt.

From what I remember reading about this in the past--you're not suppose to use one in an aluminum tank.
Plus why would you want to if the manufacture doesn't require it?

With angle of the plastic plug, I'm not sure you would get one in. Seems like of waste of money and time if it is not needed.

Here's a good video on anode rods.
If you watch the suggested video you see that they aren't that efficient just another reason not to bother if you have an Atwood

Do not do it an anode is a piece of metal that is suppose to rust away in other words a sacrifice metal. By placing it in you are in danger of it creating electralis this will short the life of you hot water heater

I did the same got the pit-cock. I also for a couple bucks got the wrench and couple extra plastic caps just in-case. They are cheap enough. Got all at Campers World.

The rod with the drain just seemed like the perfect solution, regardless of needing the rod.

Ah, little more searching.

Thanks for clearing this up and the idea of the drain plug.

Burgy...we told you on the first page here that the petcock is the way to go ..do not know why you kept wanting to waste money on an anode rod that is used on a different heater. sorry if this seems abrupt.
LLoyd , can we stop this thread now.?

No apology needed Harley. I don't care enough about your opinion to have been offended.

The thread now includes a link to the actual product you mentioned and someone else pictured. I think we're good now.
