I have had my F550 to 2 different dealers to inspect the front end because when I turn or go over a hard bump I hear a clunk that I can feel on the floor. Â*It is only intermittent. Â*I just had them repair the stabilizer bar and bushings but that didn't help. Â*Both of the dealers just passed me off as a dumb women who was imagining things. Â*The clunk seems to be getting worse. Â*I don't want to go back to Minnesota from California when the weather gets warmer without this being fixed but I've come to the conclusion that if it doesn't register on the computer they are clueless. Â*Any ideas that I can suggest to the Mission Ford in San Jose? Â*I've haven't taken it there yet so I'm hoping they can find something. Â*ThanksÂ*

Well, without knowing much about the year, 2-wheel drive or 4, one possibility might be ball joints. I had to have mine replaced on my 04 at 36,000 miles. The ball joints on these trucks are not the best quality, especially if you are towing heavier loads as it places more stress on the front ends. The new ball joints, at least the lower ones from ford have a grease able fitting, but alot of people spend the money and invest in some MOOGS.

Could also be a bad shock absorber.

Intermintent problems are hard to diagnose (warranty does not pay well from factory). Try to find out which side the noise or where you are "feeling" the bump when it occurs. If you are somewhat comfortable and capable of listening for this noise when it is running and on a rough surface, turn the steering wheel left and right lock to lock and see if the popping noise gets worse or is more pronounced when turning. The suspensionis loading upwhen the vehicle leans or hits a bump in road anda spring, shackle, ball joint, steering component, orsomething is probably a little loose and releasing at some point. Thisis probably what is causing this popping noise, as it happens it telescopes through to the floorboard area where you feel it making it seem worse than it really is. The more info you bring to the dealer the better chance of repair.

I had this same thing happening not long ago and found that one of the lower front shock bolts had loosened up and was causing the shock to move just enough on bumps to cause the noise. I could feel it in the floor board each time I hit a small bump. After re-tightening the lower front shock bolts the noise was gone. I am not saying that is the problem with yours but might be worth a look.

I had the same situation as Hunter11. Only mine was on the front end of a winnabago motor home.

It might be worth while for you to take it to a good alignment/front endshop to have it diagnosed. They might charge you a few bucks to look at it, but they should be able to tell you exactly what the problem is.

did you check the loose nut behind the wheel....just kidding. i would also say check your shocks and steering stabilizer.(it looks like a horizontial shock in the front near your steering components). also gossamar turned me on to a great ford website, its www.ford-trucks.com i'm on it everyday and its loaded with great info. use there "search" feature. good luck and post back with your results.

You'll probably be better served by going over to

Ford Truck Enthusiasts web site.

They have a separate forum for about every make model, shape form and fashion.

There is no question that diesel stop dot com is a good place, but FTE is mfger specific.
