Headed out for our first spring camping trip and while I was fueling up at a truck stop I checked the weight on a CAT scale ($10.00 for the use of the scale)

Steer Axle - 4900 lbs
Drive Axle - 6060 lbs
Trailer Axle - 9220 lbs
Cross Weight - 20,180 lbs

2 passengers in the truck, full tank of diesel (36 gallons) and 1 small dog. Trailer is packed for camping and about 1/3 tank of water. Propane tanks full, dual 12V batteries and the compartments loaded with "camping stuff".

Glad I upgraded to a newer 3500 HD back in 2011. It has a GVWR of 11,600 lbs. Axle ratings - 5600 lbs front and 7050 lbs rear. Having a diesel adds wight to the truck. I have air bags on the truck so I think that would shift some of the weight to the front axle. </span>

Our CF335SS has axles rated at 5200 lbs each. Weight leaving the factory was 10,014 lbs "dry". That leaves the load rating of about 2300 lbs.

For all those that have read some of my previous postings - no issues with the bed slide going in and out. Had a good down pour last night with good wind gusts - no leaks in the slide seals.

Bob: Have a good trip. You have had a journey with the slide sounds like you have it worked out, good luck. Good planning getting the CAT weigh.

The last time I ran the truck and trailer over the CAT scales I made a second weight with just the truck (dropped the trailer for a few minutes) to get the hitch weight. I think it is a good idea to check the weights to see how much stuff has got put in the trailer over time.

Have a safe and wonderful trip. Next time you can hit a scale, weigh each trailer axle separately and each side of the trailer. In a perfect world, you have decent margins, but it is pretty common for the rear axle and the left, rear tire to be carrying more than their fair share of the weight.
