Closet Too Narrow for Hangers
We have been Forest River folks for the past 16 years (three fifth wheels and one Class A) but recently downsized to a 31' Cruiser Aire. Not until we started packing for a trip did we realize...the closets weren't deep enough for a standard clothes hanger to hang and allow the door to shut.
Don't get me wrong - we love our Cruiser Aire, but good grief people...who on earth would design a closet that won't close once clothes are hanging in it.
Anybody else have this issue and come up with a workable solution for it? For me, I can hang my shirts and pants (primarily shorts) but it poses a real issue for the wife.
Seems like a critical design flaw to me.

Being that you have to live with this issue, maybe these swivel hook hangers will fold into the closet for you to hang clothes.

Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Can the rod be moved toward the back of the closet if the hangers aren't hitting the back wall?

I checked and that won't help any. I think our only solution is going to be try to find some clothes hangers that are an inch or two shorter than standard ones.
Thanks for the suggestion - great thought but it wouldn't help.

You might have to put in a couple eye hooks and string a rope across one end of the bedroom.

I found some shorter hangers at Target and some on Amazon. Most of the ones with the notch near the hook to allow you to insert them into a small collar opening are usually shorter than standard hangers.

You are right about it being a design problem! However, now that you have it perhaps

You are right about it being a design problem! However, now that you have it perhaps you could turn the ends of the -wire- hangers up.

We don't really use wire hangers these days - I think we're going to go the route of finding shorter hangers and stocking up on those...along with folding and stacking a lot of clothes after they're ironed rather than always hanging.
Thanks!

We added shelves to our hanging closets and are able to store more clothes. This is working much better for us.

We're folding (for shelves) a lot of ours, plus we did find some shorter hangers that "just fit" so I think the problem is resolved. But, if there are any RV design engineers reading here...make sure the majority of clothes hangers fit...please!!

We had the same problem with our hangers not fitting into our closets. We found that Walmart's Mainstays Adult Durable Plastic Notched Clothing Hangers were 16 1/2 inches wide, compared to the 17 3/4 inch width of our normal hangers. They just fit. With a package of 18 hangers for about $3.00, it might be worth a try.
