Cruisers with 30 and 50 amps

Hi,



I am hoping some of you can help me. I have seen models and like things about each of thesetwo. One is the CF30SKP which has 50 amp service. The other is CF32MK which has 30 amp service.



Both units have 10 gallon water heaters, 15,000 btu a/c's, rain sensor fantastic fan in the bedroom, microwave and 8 cu friges.



I totally understand that 50 amp basically has more power and will run more items. What difficulties would I have with the bigger water heater and a/c unit and 30 amp system? If I was trying to run all those on electric at once would it be tripping breakers?



I have a 30 amp camper now and occassionaly will trip the surge protector. I did Sunday trying to run microwave, 6 gal water heater, 13.5 a/c and a crock pot.

This issue was the subject of a long thread a while back.



Our CF31QB trips when the hot water heater is running hard and the a/c is on. Same thing happened with the vacuum cleaner running. The answer is a separate breaker for the a/c. Maybe the 50 amp models have that?

We have the CF30SKP and have had no problems using 30 amp service. However, having said that, we have used the a/c on only a couple of occasions. You can always run your fridge and hot water heater on propane if you are concerned.

IMHO... I would go 50 AMPs if you can. You can always go from 50 ->30 with an adapter, but you'll never go from 30 ->50.

I would rather have the juice available and not need it, than to need it and not have it.


The circuit break out between the HW & AC has solved my A/C breaker tripping issues, but I still have issues with the plug getting to hot and melting the plugs when using a 30AMP extension cord.

Having had an'07 30sk with 30 amp service and now a '10 30skp with the 50 amp service, I can say I much prefer the 50 amp. We don't even think about what we are operating. Have had electric water heater, microwave, two 1,000 watt electric heaters all running last winter with no problems. Have yet to trip any breakers. The Patriot addition also gives you alot of other options, electric rear jacks, electric awning, 16 inch tires, rotoflex pinbox, etc. I you find a Patriot floor plan that you like I would go for it.

I do like the CF30SK Patriot version. Has lots of bells and whistles I've never had before.

You might want to call the factory the true 2011s rolling off the line starting this month are redesigned with more features. Ask if 50amp service is an option now. I know they wanted to start offering Patriot options as stand alone options. In addition there are new floorplans at the end of this month.

Usually the 50amp service is for the 2nd A/c and or washer/dryer option. The 50amp is also a 220v service that most campgrounds I've founddo not provide. From what I've heard is there are more and more rv parksupgrading to a 50amp service to accomodate larger unitswhich is great. I would personally go with the 50amp service as there will come a time when it can be utilized, and like salda01 said you can go from 50 to 30 but not the other way around.

I don't know of any campground that uses 220v service.The 50 amp are still 120v.One thing to think about is the size of the power cord,it is about twice the size of the 30 amp and heavy.I would think ,in the winter when putting it up, it could be hard to push into a hole when cold.

The 50 amp is two legs of 120 volt. If you use a two pole breaker you can supply 240 volts to a device that requires it. I know because I spent last winter upgrading a campground and putting in meters.

2 legs of 120v is 220v.

50AMP cords are heavy and I could definitely see in the cold temps, it would be almost impossible to bend. With that being said has Crossroads finally switched over to the twist lock power cords for 2011? I really dislike the attached cord with the door.

According to Rudy from Crossroads there are numerous 2011 changes that should be rolling out soon including new floorplans.

We have an '09 Cruiser with the patriot package, and it has the 50 amp cord separate with the twist lock plug. It is heavy, and probably the hardest part of the hook-up, but still worth it. That said, we always hook up with a 30 amp adaptor, since many campgrounds charge extra for 50 amp, and haven't had a problem running with only 30.

I have two cords - a standard 50 amp and an accessory 30 amp cord with the 50 amp marine end to match camper. I use the heavy 50 amp in warm weather when I run two air conditioners and the convection microwave. I use the very flexible 30 amp cord in cooler weather when not using maximum electrical power. I also use the 30 amp cord to attach to my Honda 6500EU-is Generator. The 50 amp cord could be used as a pole in colder weather, it is very difficult to bend.

I have 50 amp service and it's a must have, we are looking at new unit, and it has an electric type reel system that rolls the cord up nice and neet.....

Where do you locate your generator in your RV? I plan on getting a Patriot edition Cruiser and use it for dry-camping in California state coastal parks on long weekends. Those parks tend not to have any service.
