Door hinge

Anyone replace the hinge on a compartment door. The one for the main compartment has a crack in it - on the side with the gas shock. I think it was stressed because there is only one shock installed. When I fix/replace it I will install a second shock on the right hand side of the door. Will takje some pictures and edit the post - raining outside - found the problem when we went for a camping trip this weekend.

Other problems this trip:
When we got home - the jacks will not retract - thinking it is due to a wiring issue with the cut out switch/plate (INTELLIJACKS controller is what operates the front landing legs).

While camping the fresh water tank level indications stopped working - always shows empty. The wires on the back of the panel all look good - may be the wires at the tank.

The retract function of the landing gear is now working - found the wire damaged going to the sensor on the leg.

Fresh water tank level - may have to drop the covering under the trailer - not sure it is work the effort.

Attached a picture of the hinge - will have to see if the RV dealer can get a replacement hinge from CrossRoads - I have not found one on-line yet. Being very careful when I open and close the door. I wonder if a "regular" hinge would work on the door. I am not sure if this is the design CrossRoads has always used.

Next project - replace the switch for the water pump - the light is not working - found a switch on Amazon.
I think it is called a Belt Rail Hinge

Bob, did you ever get your second door lift put on to cut down on the stress factor??
If so how did you do it? Do you have pictures on how you did it?

I will install the second shock when I install the new hinge. The hinge should be shipped on Monday - the hinges were back ordered.

Mary at Lippert was very polite and helpful - very good customer service.

Did you have to buy both inter and outer hinge?

I only needed to purchase the damaged portion. Mary told me that they are usually replaced as a set - inner and outer. So I purchased both.

Once I take the door/hinge off I will determine if I will replace the outer hinge.

She was surprised that I was going to do the work myself since a pop rivit gun is needed. I told her that I own one and the hinge replacement will not be that difficult. I told her I was going to add a second shock too.

I will need to paint the hinge black to match the rest of the hinges - all of the trim on our unit is painted black.

I finally got around to installing the new hinge. I only replaced the outer hinge - part that was damaged. I did not install a second shock on the door because I would not be able to mount it like the original one is mounted. I did replace the 60 lb "shock" with a 40 lb one. It keeps the door open and reduces the stress on the hinge.
