Installed new valve
Yes I installed a new valve yesterday. The cable is the same length as the original cable- bought it from my Cruiser dealer for about 50 bucks. Before installing the valve, I lubricated it with silicone grease. Even so, and with silicone spray on the cable rod ends, it takes considerably effort to move. Mine also had that piece of ABS plastic inside the pipe but I left it there as it never had been an issue in the past.
After lots of cleaning and WD40 spraying on the workbench, the removed valve is also very hard to open and close. My next move will be to gain access to the control rod inside the assembly to see if that is the culprit.
As insurance, I will pack a Porta-Poty (mobile toilet) for my 6 week trip this summer. That can be dumped without having to move the whole trailer to the dump station..........nice bonus.
It is very easy for one or both of the rubber gaskets inside of the ABS pipe to become partially dislodged during installation of the new valve. If so one may able to see it dangling inside if one looks down from the toilet opening.........and of course the valve will leak waste onto the ground.
As my black tank valve is relatively inaccesible due to the underbelly fabric and insulation, in the end I may secumb to using mineral oil in the toilet now and then.
Hope all of this helps someone.
