Roof help...before we buy...

I'm looking at a 2011 CF30sk Patriot. I got up on the roof, which is in flawless condition, but thought the roof just felt "flexy" underfoot...more so than our current Dutchmen 5vr. No soft spots just an overall flexible feel from front to back as if the plywood used is just generally thinner than I'm used to. the other thing I noticed was a visible seam in one spot(under the rubber) where two pieces of plywood came together, one edge was about a half inch higher than the joining piece and could be pushed down flush fairly easily as if it were not attached to anything underneath. we are set to buy the camper Saturday, is this roof condition fairly normal or should I be concerned?
The rubber looked nearly brand new, a few quarter sized bubbles here or there and all caulking looked excellent.

thanks and hoping to join the Crossroads family soon!
Mark

Are you looking to buy this from a dealer or private party?

OK then I suppose you can't expect to see any kind of warranty.
If it was me, I would be concerned about the joint where the plywood meets. That should be secured down. They probably missed hitting the rafter at the factory when it was built. As far as it feeling spongy when you walk on it, that seems to be the way the roofs on Cross Roads are. Mine included.
I would suggest a call to Cross Roads and talk to somebody in the service dept. and see if you can get a little incite on the issue.

Thanks Lloyd, I think I will do just that. Do you have any other concerns/recommendations on this particular year and model that we should go over extra carefully on Saturday before we sign the dotted line?

If you don't get any answers at the factory, You could send a PM to this gal
ChristianM
She is a CR person that is on the forum, and she might be better at pointing you to the right people there.

It more then likely has the Schwintec slide system. That has been a problematic system. I would check that very thoroughly. Make them run those slides in and out many times, and verify what mechanism is in the trailer that operates the slides.

Knock on wood...but I have not had any problems with my slide. Good advise though. When putting slide in or out I always hold for three to five seconds and this is advised in order to keep motors synced.

I don't think it has the schwintek system, I don't recall seeing the "worm gear" tracks on the side of the bedroom slide and I'm positive the living room slides have the pinion type under each slide. I guess we'll see on Saturday when we go for the delivery check out.
Hopefully I'll be able to register my rig here on Saturday!!

Mark,
My 2011 does not have the Schwintek system, so you are probably right. But more important is what was the build date? It will be shown on the sticker on the street side of the unit along with the VIN # and tire info. Part of the answer is what front cap style does it have as CR changed in mid model year. If it has the old square style, no problem. If it has the notched style and was built after 8/1/11, then again no problem. But if it has the notched front cap and built prior to 8/1/11, then it MAY have too much frame flex. If you want more info, send me a PM.

We bought the camper on Saturday. Checked for frame flex...looked good. The whole unit is in excellent condition and we are very happy with it. It is the same size and weight as our old Dutchmen fifth, but I could not believe how much better it pulled! We purchased the unit used from Camping World in Woodstock, GA and I have to say I was reluctant purchasing a used unit from a dealer just because I figured we would pay much more than from private seller. We got an excellent price and the team at CW did a fantastic job from start to finish. They found a few things in the PDI that we did not see (control board on water heater, faulty panel on tank gauges) they brought it to our attention and ordered new parts and are shipping them to a CW near our home and installing for free! I did a two hour walk through and the fellow that did our orientation was informative and patient. We were so pleased with the way the deal went there. Kudos to Camping World of Woodstock!
