Slide out support jacks, should or should I not use them with our 2012 Cruiser. I can't find anything with the manuals that came with our Cruiser on this. Our old Springdale manual said that it required them. I know that they are used just for support, and not to lift the room. I would always put them under just until they touched the slid frame rails.

Would like your inputs on this please!

Bob

I would not use them. if you put them under the slides and you have a flat tire think of the throw on it. If they were needed CrossRoads would be the first to sell them or recomend them. I personally think that this is a source of damage. Just my penny worth

I agree with the others. If they were required the unit would have come with them.

I've been using slide supports for 4 years without problem. I wasn't happy with the stabilty of the ST so I thought I'd do everything I could think of to solve the problem. Put blocks under the scissor jacks so they wouldn't extend too far, added the Steadyfast system, and put the supports under the slide. I only tightened them 'til snug and they wouldn't fall overunder the two rails without raising the slide up at all. So far, all works great. I get more movement in the slide if I don't use them.Frank's comment about a flat tire started me thinking though. It'd have to be on the same side as the slide, but never having had a flat (hope I didn't just jinx myself) am wondering how well the inflated tire next to the flat on the second axle would support the trailer...enough so as not to create too much stress on the slide supports? With the scissor jacks tight, etc?
Thoughts?

Russ the reason I said that, Is that one time on a trip when I was walking Hover and Rainbow I saw a fifth wheel older model that the at least one tire was flat and the other one was partially flat it had settled on the slide support and the slide was way out of kilter. On our last trip to Abita springs I went to go out the door, and it was hard to open, onr the front tire on that side was flat. And I checked it before we left the day before. The movement no longer bothers me the BAL wheel chocks helped a bunch, and I use safety jacks under the back stabilzer. I crank them down a little bit hard and than raise the front of the fifth wheel a little bit. I know a lot of peolple went to the JT's a while back and seem to like them. I thin Lloyd is one

No JD strong arm here.

The slides on the new rigs are suppose to be able to support themselves. I can just see the mess it could make if you had a flat tire, or what ever.

Thanks for the explanation, Frank. Now you've got me rethinking the supports.

Hey Folks found this on page 20 of the Crossroads owners manual. It's in the left margin

"Slide-Outs
In extended use situations, it is
advisable to add support blocks
under the slide- room. Do not
raise the room. Just touch the
bottom."

Ian

The same note is in my manual and I have been using the jacks. It seems like a good idea especially when folks are sitting on the sofa and table. That's a lot of weight unsupported.

Hey Guys ..if you want to use supports and are worried about a flat lowering the trailer ...just put a safety stand or hydraulic jack to the frame between the wheels....of course we all carry a jack for emergencies ...right? so it is something we already have , no extra weight..
