WE HAVE TO CROSS OVER TWO DRIVEWAYS IN ORDER TO BACK OUR TRAVEL TRAILER WHERE WE PARK . WHILE CHECKING THE AIR PRESSURE IN THE SPARE I NOTICED THAT THE MOUNT WAS DENTED AND THE TIRE HAD A RUB SO I REMOVED THE SPARE AND WANT TO KNOW IF IT IS SAFE TO MOUNT ON THE REAR BUMBER WITH THE PROPER TIRE MOUNT ?

I mounted mine on the back bumper, and got rid of the under carriage bracket/mountand alsoa 2 bike carrier and havent had any problems with it at all.

I hated the thought of having to crawl under the trailer in the dark, on the side of the road, while it is raining, just to get the spare outif I had a flat. Of course it would be all of the above when I got a flat! LOL

My spare came factory mounted on the bumper and after my recent trip to Fl. the welds holding the bumper to the frame are pulling apart. I'm waiting for a welder to fix the problem. The installation from the factory will not support the tire. Only about 2" of the bumper is welded to the I beam. Take a close look at how your bumper is attached. I'm bot sure if the bumpers on the FW and TT are the same.

The trouble is not so much how many inches of weld there is, but the fact that the square tube bumper is so thin that it fatigues. I replaced mine with a much heavier tube and added braces to re-inforce where the hitch is attached. Welded the hitch in place while at it, now that I have a significant piece of steel to work with.
