Question Television Problem "A Real Head Scratcher"

Ok, I've got a real headscratcher.

Sitting in the RV tonite watching TV (Baylor football) using the OTA antenna(Winegard). I turned on the kitchen lights and the tv lost signal. Turned the lights off and signal came back. Hmmm. Tried the living room lights, no problem. While thinking about this the DW turned on the bathroom light, lost signal. Turned off, signal back. Tried bedroom, no problem. Slide lights, no problem.

The kitchen, living room, slide, bedroom, and bathroom lights are all the hockey puck LEDs. FWIW

Thinking there may be something about the TV amp I checked and the green light never went off, just lost the signal when some lights turned on.

Short, if I turn on the kitchen or bathroom lights the tv loses signal. None of the rest bother it. This is on a station south of us and at the edge of the range. A station to the north of us and closer isn't affected.

We are in a fringe area but the digital signal is fine until I turn on one of the mentioned lights while tuned to the far stations.

The lights that affect the TV are in close proximity to where the antenna is mounted. That's the only explanation I have, the LEd's are emitting rf and blocking the signal.

Thoughts?

Cliff, I have noticed one of our LED lights doing the same thing to our radio. We hardly ever have a tv hooked up so don't know how it would affect that.

Cliff i believe you have diagnosed it Proximity of lights to antenna, fringe signal area and signal block. You might find more here http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2013/05...orse-at-night/

pull the fuse for the booster to see if they are on the same circuit as the bath and kitchen lights. that may cause the problem . might have to rewire booster to tv circuit..just a guess though.

We have the same problem. If the TV is on, we cannot use any fan; over the stove nor the bathroom. It causes interference with signal.

Having worked with RF, EMP and LED's, I can say that they are your likely culprit. Today's OTA signals are very sensitive. There are ways to shield and/or boost the signal so that stray interference would be less likely but I haven't done any background searches to see. Hope this helps!

Years ago when I was into CB radios, they had an inline filter that could used to help with the interference caused by those cheap fans and some motors.
Don't know if they are available any more or not.

I guess it's not really that important. We very rarely watch TV anyway. If on an extended road trip we will use it for news - maybe.
