Toilet

Our CK29 has a ceramic toilet. I'm assuming that it has a wax seal like a household toilet?

No, most likely it's a foam seal/gasket.

It could be either. Not sure if the 2008 came with a ceramic toilet. My 2007 came with a plastic toilet and foam gasket. Upon switching to a ceramic, I installed a normal wax ring.

I called Thetford and the china Aqua Magic II does not have a wax ring. They said that the present ring was probably kinked during installation or that it has "settled" over the eight years of it's life, allowing a little tank smell into the bathroom. Amazon carries the replacement ring.

regardless if it came with one or not, you can use the wax ring.

Just my 2 cents worth.....but due to temperatures inside RV during summer storage, wouldn't that potentially cause wax ring to "melt"?

Up here in the NW, we don't have THAT much heat. Maybe in the hot desert climate. Interesting question though.

Its a combination of heat and floor flex that make a wax ring the wrong choice for an RV.

I've removed the toilets in almost every rv we've owned for one reason or another & not one of them had a wax ring, all had the foam gasket.
Also residential toilets are generally caulked around the base, not one rv toilet has been.

I don't chalk around the base of a residential toilet.
Reason being---if it starts to leak, it will run down, not out, and the floor will be soaked before you catch it.

In commercial bathrooms many architects spec caulk for sanitary reasons. Where a variety of people are using a commercial toilet there's some hit and miss going on with people's aim . It's to keep stuff from flowing under the toilet.
