Ubolts

Had an issue this winter going South. I bent an axel and the symptom I had was that my trailer brakes were not reacting the way they used to. Had a mobile mechanic and found the Ubolts were loose. Now that I have replaced the axel I will be checking the Ubolts. Doesn't anyone know what I should set my Torque wrench to. Thx Bill

I had the same issue with mine when new. The axle actually separated from the bolts. CR replaced and crovered under warranty, then 3 years later the replaced axle bent at the ends CR worked with the dealer a Lippert to replace Ijust had pay for labor. I was surprised CR stepped up.

Here is why my U bolts were loose. Large chuck holes in I40 Eastbound from I40 intersection with Arizona 95 to Kingman in 2011.
Lippert did step up and replace the axle in quick time. I was impressed with the service.

My U bolts are long enough that I double nut them. It will not prevent what happened to me but I have read several postings like this one complaining of loose U bolts.

Re-torqued all of the suspension bolts after we took deliver of the unit in 2011 and re-check each spring. The nuts were not torqued to spec. Also - installed a wet bolt kit to extend the life of the shackles.

No issues with tire wear or axle performance. Longest trip we have taken - put 5200 miles on the trailer when we made our trip out west last summer.
