We have been experiencing a terrible smell coming from the closet in the bedroom where the Washer is plumbed. We replaced the vent with a $20 studor vent from Lowes and that eliminated most of it but some smell seems to be seeping through the other pipe. We flushed the tank but no help. Any thoughts?

Others with more experience will comment but it sounds like that plumbing is allowing the tank to vent in the closet. Is there a trap present, is the pre- plump open or is the washer installed? What do you mean by the "other" pipe.

Well, a big forehead slap for me. I figured out why the smell. The washer water return pipe has a trap that had no water in it. I poured a cup of water into it and no more smell.
