We are the happy new owners of a 2009 Zinger ZT29DB.

We chose it because of the unique floorplan, which has bunks for when the grandkids are with us. And when they're not with us, the bunks can flip up, which makes a nice little computer room - also a play room for when the kids are with us.

We'd like to install a bunk rail for the 6 year old who will be in the top bunk.

We're looking for something strong enough to be an effective bunk rail, yet versatile enough to fold flat on the bunk when it is in the flipped-up position.

My husband is a good handyman, so he can implement once we have a plan.

Any ideas out there?

Thank you, in advance!

Jane, in Maine

if the kids are'nt wild sleepers you might want to try a shower curtain rod. the kind that expands when you twist it. it worked for us.

I would NOT try the shower curtain rod idea. A child can slide under it in their sleep and get hung... the last thing in the world you want is to wake up and find a dead child because you went with an "it might work" idea.

you can buy actual bed rails for less than $30 at Wal-Mart. Why risk it?

really? they are tension rods and any kind of real force and they will come off the wall. they are not permantly mounted to the wall and they are just high enough to stop a child from rolling out of bed. they cant fit under it...so no one here is getting HUNG to death.(thats why iasked ifhis kids were wild sleepers)have you used store bought bed rails. i have'nt found anything that fits the bunks in my trailer. the rails need to be shorter than the mattress because our trailer has a cabinet in between the quad bunks. If they can't slide under it, have at it, but I wouldn't chance it.

I have the exact same trailer with the cabinet between the bunks, so I know what you're talking about in terms of length of the exposed mattress. I also have a 3 year old who, despite never having fallen out of his big boy bed (which he's been sleeping in for about a year now), fell out of the lower bunk in our trailer the very first night we had it. HUGE *THUNK*! in the middle of the night - just about made me "soil" myself! Go figure!

Here's the type of guard rail I was talking about. there are several different models, but they all work the same. I haven't tried it, but I think it would fit.

We use one of the rails that slide under the mattress . We took one from home. It appears to be working fine for our 8 y.o. Good Luck
