Angry Just my luck

So I am borrowing a relative's 2017 Zinger Z291RL TT. I am new to this, having never camped in anything but a tent up to this point. Had the awning out and it started to rain, so I pressed the button to retract the awning and the left (idler side) support arm bent out like a chicken wing and then broke. I have no idea who manufactured the arm, or what the part number is. I believe it is a carefree, based on images of similar awning mechs. Does anyone know for certain the part/manufacturer? Since this broke on my watch, I need to get it fixed before returning the trailer.

Thanks!

If you can determine the manufacturer, they all sell replacement arms. Google the manufacturer and check out the parts. Just a note. They usually sell the whole arm and they are very expensive.

Good luck.

First question is why bring it in if it is raining, awnings are to keep you dry when it rains, just lower one side to let rain run off.

If they borrowed the camper they may not have known to let one arm down to pitch it. If there is a lot of wind ours gets rolled up.

I don't understand what they did wrong in retracting the awning. Either a defect or previous damage to the arm.

I was thinking the same thing. They said it "started " to rain so i would not think the awning was full of water.

I had a friend that forgot to drop one side and it came a hard rain. He went out and tried to drop one side when it had built up water. Broke his arm and ripped the awning. The first thing I do after rolling out the awning is drop one side.

My awning arm has a label on the inside portion of both arms. Maybe look there for make and model #'s

clarification

I'm guessing there was previous damage to the idler arm, after a conversation (too late) with the owners it seems there was a process that wasn't explained when it comes to lowering the awning. Well, this awning anyway. Being unaware of this quirk, and not being privy to the lowering one side technique, my wife decided to pull in the awning when the weather came on. As we are borrowing the trailer, we feel obligated to remedy the damage. I have the part number and make now. Just trying to find a good price. It's a Carefree 87JVAP (R001839blk) arm.
Thanks for all the input.

Awning manufacturer

The name is the company you’re looking for that makes the awning is Carefree ofColorado.

Can’t help you with the part number but this should get you pointed in the right direction. Good luck.
