Has anyone used any of the Theford portable waste tanks? We are tripping for about a week at a time and the 40 gal black tank seems to only last about 4 or 5 days so we are looking to get one of those portable waste tanks. Just looking for some feedback.
We are seasonal without sewer, so "blue thunder" makes rounds every 3-4 weeks. JCW was the cheapest place to get one, and if you google promo codes you can get free shipping.
I even lucked out - they sent me a 32-gal. with side discharge when I ordered a basic 22-gal. I got a $300 tank for $100.
Also - not a glorious task, but handled properly it isn't bad, either.

It has become kind of a must have item. Previously had stayed in only full hook up campgrounds. It is more convenient. We then realized a lot of the nicer and better campgrounds like the state parks do not have full hook ups so we bought one about one about 10 years ago. Once you get used to using the portable it is not bad.

So Sue would you explain to me how to use one. I've been trailer camping since 2000 and see these things in stores but it has escaped me how to use this thing. I'm not even sure how to hook it up and use it without getting a big Poo Pyramid in your main tank.

it is only used for draining tank and taking the blue portable to the dump station. Has nothing to do with a pyramid, as you keep your black tank valve closed till you drain to blue portable....

So how do you get it to the dump station, especially if there isn't one on the campsite grounds? Not everyone has a pickup they can load it into the bed with a ramp. Even that would be very hard.

I do not have one but have seen people hooking it on the ball and driving slowly to the dump station. Or pulling it like a wagon.

It comes with a bar and an attachment to hook up to your ball hitch at the back of the truck or other vehicle and you just hook it up and drive it up to the camp dump station. When we stay in a campground with no sewer, we take showers in the bath house so as not to quickly fill up the grey tank. We only dump grey water and dump the black water when we are leaving the campground at the dump station. Have never stayed at a campground that does not have one. I suppose you could dump the black water also. The tanks come with hoses that attach to the waste valve on the camper and the other end goes into the tank. And then the sewer disposal at the dump station. You wear rubber gloves and there should be no spillage. My husband always does that task but I have watched. It also comes with detailed instructions. Hope I haven't made this sound too complicated. Once you do it a couple of times it is fairly easy.

LOL...we tow it with our golf cart. Cheating, I know...
The real fun is taking in back empty - hence the name Blue Thunder
