Sold the Zinger

Well, we sold our Zinger this week. New owners took possession on Thursday. It was sad to see it go down the road but we are excited for the new 5er! We put a deposit on a 2014 Sabre 34REQS today, so I guess we are now a member of the SOB crowd.

Good for you! Congrats. What is the "SOB" crowd. Not sure I would want to join them? They sound kind of snotty.

Welcome to the 5er crowd Aileen. Looking forward to seeing you in C-ville this fall with the 'bunch". I was just looking at your new acquisition online and its looks like a great home away from home!

Yup. 5ers are huge compared to TTs...until a trip, then back into your home and then your home is really huge...

Congratulations on the new Sabre! The Forest River Forum is great, too. I still check it out occasionally. I've had three FR products over the last few years. I don't think you'll be dissatisfied. You may have a few first year kinks to work out, but don't let that scare you. I think the overall build quality is pretty good, at least mine were.

Thanks, yeah I figure on a few kinks as most tt, 5er and MH have them. I just hope they are relatively minor like they were on our trusty little zinger. I can tell you that the 12th can't get here fast enough. That is the day we do our pdi and bring our new baby home. The new owners of our Zinger have taken it camping and told us how much they love it already!

Brought the new Sabre home today!!!! Here are a couple pics taken during our pdi. Rear end has some squat but the truck did not feel light in the front end. I'll have to see what it looks like once we load it up. I'll hit the scales after loading too.

Very nice! What's your first impression of towing the 5er vs. the Zinger? I'm going to be making a similar transition from the Sunset Trail in the near future and I'm really curious about the move from 32' TT to 35' 7" 5er. Tnx. Joyce keeps telling me, "It's tall, that's all".

I went from a 30' tt to a 39' fiver. Length not too much of an issue. It is very tall! That is what intimidates me. Towing it isn't bad, you just have to be aware of how much more space you need for the 5er to track on a turn. I never even felt the tractor trailers today. I do feel some chucking when towing (i have the reese 16k). Don't know if that will change with loading the trailer or not. One big difference I discovered was during my backing practice in an empty parking lot across the street from the dealership. When backing up if I cut it real tight (think Jack knife), I couldn't straighten out while going backwards. The only way to straighten out was to pull forward. If you can tow that tt, you can tow the 5er.

Congratulations on the new trailer!

I have found two differences between a TT and a 5er. One, when you make a turn, the trailer wants to take a short cut, so you need to turn wider. Two, when you back up, there is a delay between when you make a correction on the steering wheel and when the trailer reacts. Often you are not aware of it until you have already over-corrected.

I understand longer trailers are easier to back up than shorter ones.

Have fun with the new trailer!

thanks, I had to give tours to our neighbors yesterday. they want to know when they can come camping with us! they are a family of 5 and it only sleeps 4. and yes typically longer trailers are easier to back, just practice with them in a parking lot to get used to them. Now how do I get used to judging the height of this thing? I'm worried about tree branches and power lines as bridges are typically marked.

To make sure you don't hit anything with the roof, have your spotter look up as well as the other directions.
