2016 270BH and hardwired surge protector.

Hi All,

Just picking up the ST 270BH and I need to install surge protector.
Some will say, you don't need that etc, but its $300 and can protect against some expensive service work. It tripped couple of times on the old trailer in some RV parks, so I just need it.

I need some help with that.
The unit I have, it Progressive Industries EMSHW30C. This needs to be installed before the brakers and charger. Somewhere inside the trailer.
Now, the issue is: WHERE ? Where can I put it ? The power plugs almost at the end of the drivers side of the trailer. There is no compartment I can put that in.
Under the shower ? The wires have to go through there ?

Did anyone had that issue ? Or knows where there is space for this ? The box dimensions are: 9" L x 5" W x 3" H

Have you pulled out your breaker box and checked behind it for room? That's one of the easier places and in spite of all the wires coming in behind there's usually extra space. Plus it's where the main power cord connects. Everything is right there. It's where I put my Progressive hard wired 50 amp but the cruiser 5ers have a significantly different layout than yours.

Awesome, thanks. I didn't expect there will be space behind the breaker box.
I will try that out.

I located ours in the area under the Circuit Breaker box, removed panel. I attached the Unit on a piece of plywood with some small strips of wood to make it easy to screw down in the small access. The main feed from the 50 connection ran through that area so splicing in the protector was easy.

That wood thing is a good tip. I will install that as soon as the weather is nicer.

I had room in an empty section of the wall where the electrical cord came into the camper.
When I removed the panel, there was a junction box located there. It was just a simple matter of installing the surge protector on the wall of the compartment, then routing the wires thru it and back to the junction box.
If you have such a place even if there isn't a junction box, you could break the line and route it thru the surge protector.

Ya, I did not find any good access panel. Maybe it is under the bunk bed somewhere. But there is an outdoor kitchen. It is warming up now outside, I am hoping I will install that soon.

I completely forgot about posting the reply.

I installed the protector behind the electical box. I took it out and there was a lot of space behind it. I attached it to the wall.

Would love to see some photos and specifics on your install. I have a 270BH also and want to install it as well.
