36 or 28 gallon waste tote?

Hi all,
I’ve looked at the other posts but I haven’t seemed to get a really good answer. I’m interested in a Camco rhino for sites with no sewer (most of our camping) but I’m debating on size. My black/gray is 30 gallon. That said

- are they worth it
- what size would you get
- is there a better one than rhino
- can you really drive with it attached to your ladder

Thanks all!

Yes it’s worth it when camping where there’s no sewer at the site. I still have the old (Blue Boy). Rhino makes some good stuff so I’d say their tote is built well. Should be able to strap to the ladder. You can always make or have made a support off the bumper. Also look up Mount-n-lock bumper support. https://mount-n-lock.com/safetystrut...bumper-failure I purchased them for my rear bumper. Like night and day. The supports are supposed to allow you to haul 400-500 Lbs; but I wouldn’t try that. I made a support that my kayak sits in and then I strap it to the ladder. You need to make sure you don’t obstruct your tail light. I added a light to my kayak support and hooked into my left tail light. Also I haul my beach cart on the rear also. Probably total of 100-150 Lbs Total on the bumper with the supports. Also use the lock reciever from mount-n-lock.

Would you say the bigger or smaller size is best?

I looked up the Dimensions:
28 Gallon: 14" x 45" x 24.5""36 Gallon: 16" x 47" x 25.5". I would diffidently buy the 36. And compared to my old (Blue Boy) the rhino looks like it’s built like a tank.

We did the same thing! I just compared the two and the footprint is not much bigger for the 36. Seems like an easy choice now. 36 gallon.

We have the 28 gallon and when I fill it to the top its a beast to handle if you can't back your vehicle right up to it. In other words if you have to manhandle it any distance, particularly over unpaved surfaces, you may regret the bigger size. I often only fill it about 3/4 full when I dump even if that means I make an extra trip with it. Depends on the site I am dealing with. You would have about 300# in a full 36 gallon tank. But I wouldn't travel without some sort of honey wagon if you do any amount of dry camping.

I agree with Tom. I have an 18 gal and that is about all that I want to handle especially if it only has two wheels.

Good points. I forgot about that. But maybe he’s younger than us! LOL

Well I bought the 36 gallon. The decision was made when it went on sale for $134. I’ll tell you how I feel hauling 36 gallons of “stuff” after my first use. Wish me luck!

Fill it up at home with a water hose so you can tell. Like stated you can always fill halfway if needed.
