A/C Unit
Quick question.....we don't feel our A/C unit is cooling our 250RB the way it should. Currently 88 degrees outside while temp inside is 78 degrees. Thermostat is set at 68. We have the blinds closed. The thermostat was set to 68 earlier in the morning to allow time to keep inside cool. If anything, temp inside has climbed when temp outside climbs. Have not been opening and closing door to allow heat in. This is our first trip, since purchase, and we are trying to make sure if there are issues to address we can take RV to dealer.
Any extra suggestions on helping keep inside cooler will be appropriated.

Take the covers off the AC vents and look in there with a flashlight and a small telescoping swivel mirror. Sounds like the AC run might not be sealed up. Make sure it's taped/sealed to each outlet, and make sure the ends of the runs are sealed on both ends. If that doesn't help or take care of it, you might have to check the AC it's self to see if they installed it correctly. Some times the air box is not sealed.

Open the sliding vent on the unit itself to dump all cold air straight down. If that cools ok , then the option of looking the vents is the answer.

Thanks for the help. I will check both suggestions. My slide vents on the inside are opened all the way.
Lloyd, sorry for the thought, I assume you are referring to checking the AC from the outside? I'm completely new to this.

The first thing to check is what harley said. If you have cold air coming when you dump, then pull the covers off where the cold air is "suppose" to come out of and check in there like I stated previously.

Helps if you have an infrared thermometer to check the temps of the air coming out.
I had to sealed the barrier between the cool air side and the warm air exhaust, as cold air was being sucked straight out the exhaust.

It might be recirculating the warm and cold air together. That was my problem. Here's my post.

Our first time out in the heat last year we had a similar problem, took in in for warranty check and they found the freeze sensor was hooked up incorrectly. I also removed the ceiling assembly screen and found the divider between the supply and return not correctly positioned and not sealed very well, a little silver duct tape took care of that. Works fine now.

Good to know. I have some investigating to do too. I was bitterly disappointed with our AC performance.

Don't forget that if you are dumping the air from the vent on the unit , the air will not go to the ceiling vents. So when you are checking for ceiling vent s,close dump vent.

Yes. Simple to remove. Just found a large piece of cardboard to set the unit on. So I didn't tear the roof.

The A/C unit started working better shortly after I originally posted the issue. Perhaps the unit was not working up to it's potential due to being in direct sunlight. While I did not get the chance to check any of the suggested resolutions, I did clean the vent filters. We returned home a day later. I plan on running the A/C again to see if issues continue before going out on our next trip.
Thanks,
GBZY

I'm having a similar problem, however, mine hasn't corrected itself on its own yet. I scheduled a mobile service tech to come out and look at it for yesterday, but as luck would have it, he was involved in an accident and couldn't make it and had to reschedule.
In the meantime, I found a great article on cleaning the condenser and am thinking of trying to do it over the weekend.

Anyone ever done this on their own?

After looking at some of the suggestions posted here, I decided to check out the system on my Rushmore. Holy Cow! No wonder it wasn't cooling down as well as I thought it should. I re-taped the AC from the bottom, it made a bug difference.
I will be checking out the second AC for the same thing.

So I cleaned my coils and still not blowing cold air. Using an IR thermometer, I was only getting air at 78 degrees. It was only 84 outside at the time. My other unit was blowing at 68 degrees.
I did notice the compressor was hot, so after shutting it down, I hit it with the thermometer, it was 139 degrees. Is that hot? Could it be my compressor is bad?
I know these systems are closed, so you can't add freon ( or whatever they're using these days).
Any suggestions?
