Adding Fantastic Fans

We had one of these on our previous trailer and really liked how it aired out the unit quickly. Nice to use when you don't have 30 A hookup to run the AC fan.

I'd like to put two (one in bedroom, one in bunkhouse), but Crossroads told me the existing vents were not prewired for fans.

Has anyone installed a fan in a previously fanless vent? How difficult is it to run power to it? My last trailer's ceiling was a sandwich of ceiling tile+styroform+luan so there was no way to snake wiring.

If your tip includes, "First, get yourself a big roll of duct tape..." I'll probably ignore it.

The attic is aluminum trusses with loose fiberglas insulation, so if you have a 12v light nearby, it won't be too difficult to get power to the fan. It will be easiest if both source and vent are in the same space between trusses, that way you won't need to feed the wire over the 1 inch square aluminum tube that forms the bottom of the truss. If the light happens to operate via a wall mount switch, which is most likely the case, then you need to find another 12v source or keep the switch on and control the lights thru their own built in switch.

If you have a 12 volt celing fan that could be a location with a pre-engineered power source and switch. It may mean giving up the celing fan.

I put my Fantastic fan in the bathroom which already had a cheap fan and the necessary wiring. At night when we want ventilation in the bedroom I set the bath fan to exhaust and open the vent in the bedroom. When we want ventilation else where we do the same and open a window near the location needing ventilation. Also works great to exhaust the $%^& air that sometimes is in the bath area.

Good to hear there's space in the attic. I have a non-wall-switched ceiling light about 12" away so I should be able to use that.

Maybe I'll see if they have a "buy two, get one free" sale so I can replace the noisy bath fan, too!

 before we took delivery. It is installed in the bedroom where the 2nd AC would go. Not sure where they got the power from - not powered from the ceiling lights because it does not turn on/off with the ceiling light switch.

I am looking to replace the fan in the bathroom with one too. May just install a Vortex II Replacement Vent Fan Upgrade.
Will be an easy installation - just slip in the present vent. Found pictures of one added to a RV on RV.net

We also had one installed before we took delivery. So glad we did.
After we took delivery, hubby installed a wall switch for the light above the bed using the electric wires that went to the fan. No more climbing on the bed to turn on the light.
