I noticed this yesterday and fixed it right away, just wanted to get the word out. Yesterday morning while brushing off the battery box and other parts due to all the tree pollen and such.I noticed the battery box moved on its mount. Realizing it was not secured to the rails with anything more than a strap I moved it back to its original location and noticed water sloshing out. After removing the lid, I realized the battery box was full of water. Seems these new boxes have vents in the top and no drain holes in the bottom. I do not think electricity and water should mix, so I put a few strategic drain holes in the bottom, and whileI was in there, Isecured the box to the frame, so it can't slide around.

I hope this helps anyone who may have purchased a new trailer, and didn't think to check the battery box

How did you secure the box? I have a new trailer and I noticed the box was not secure, but the strap seems to secure the box. I am cosidering adding a second battery, and added a battery cutoff switch in the passthru storage.

I am thinking about adding a 2nd battery. My question is would'nt you be better off with a deep cycle marine type battery rather than the standard interstate battery they come with?

I took a rubber strap and wrapped it around the battery box and the shelf it sits on.
Tim yes a deep cycle would be a lot better.

If you are going with two batteries, the best would be two 6volt deep cycle. Trojan has three sizes that I can think of right off the top of my head.
t105
t125
t145
But they ain't cheap.

I figured. I have an AGM battery from Cabela's in my boat going on 4 yrs now. They are pricey but has been worth every penny.

I drilled thru the bottom of the box into the frame on two opposite corners and used two self tapping bolts to secure the box. then wrapped the strap all the way around the frame and box just for added security. No more slidding around

Your trailer should have been delivered with a Marine style deep cycle battery. If you only received a standard battery someone ripped you off. That being said, if you are going to add a second battery, keep them matched. (deep cycle with deep cycle) so they charge and discharge evenly.

I looked again...it does say marine/rv. I thought it was a standard interstate battery.

We were also surprised our new trailer's battery box was not bolted down to the trailer. We bought a better, stronger battery and a good strap and screwed it down. Much more stable now.
