This will not work if you, like me, remove your battery to store it in the basement for the winter. After 40+ years doing electrical work, DC is red (+) and black (-). I just used red phasing tape on the black and black tape on the white so I will not make the mistake. OH and BTW, yes I store my battery in the case, on a board. Let that discussion start......

Don't feel bad about asking. I didn't ask the first time I hooked my battery up and thought black would be negative. I think I had to replace 5 or 6 fuses. then afterwards I saw a sticker on the batter box stating + is black and -is white

Apparently this mistake happens all the time. When I purchased my new unit and got home with it nothing worked. I found that the technician at the dealership hooked up the battery backwards. By the way, they had to replace the radio because of it.

Well guess what??? Last week de-winterized camper to get ready for our nice weekend get a way. Flipped the black and white cable the wrong way. Was quite amazed that the only fuses I had to replace was the bedroom light / radio fuse. Now at the campground and trailer will not accept power from the 30amp source. Anyone out there smarter than me and tell me this is because I am in need of more fuses? Also seems like battery will charge and power up as long as I'm hooked to truck also right now I seem to be holding decent power with the 12v adaptor. Should have visited forum when I first made mistake.

We did this a few years ago. Turns out we had 3 bad fuses. On first inspection they looked ok, second inspection showed the blown fuses. One was radio, the other two were not. Can't remember what ones but they were 40 and 15 amp fuses. Here is the Thread from when we were diagnosing the problem. Oh and AutoZone had the fuse we needed when no rv parts store in town did. Good luck.

I did this too this past weekend. Replaced the 15amp for bedroom and the 2 40amp ones that blow if you reverse polarity. My problem is that I still don't have power to the plug for the fireplace or power to the thermostat (so no heat on a cold May morning). I've looked everywhere for a wiring schematic to try and isolate where the source of the problem is. I'm about to pull the converter to see if there's an internal fuse or breaker I'm missing. Any ideas?

Glenn996,

I had to replace 4 or 5 20amp fuses that are there for reverse polar protection and a 2amp fuse in the thermostat behind the cover. so look behind your thermostat and see if there is a glass tube, mine looked perfect until I compared to a new one. once I replaced it my heat and air starting working perfectly.

Tommy that was exactly the problem. The glass fuse looked ok. I jumped the leads and the thermostat came to life. Will replace when I get back to civilization. Thanks again. Glenn

So, I just did this today... two problems after replacing all the 20 amp fuses that pop when you do this...

1. Radio not working... separate fuse, and if so, where is it.
2. A/C - Heater fan not working... separate fuse and if so where is it..

Man I hate when I jack something like this up...

Thx.

My Jensen radio fuse is behind the radio, so you have to take it out to change it. There usually is a fuse in the thermostat. Take cover off and look for it. Check it with meter to see if it is good or not. Good luck

All my fuses were located under pantry next to fridge. The thermostat fuse was behind the cover on the thermostat.

We blew a 40 amp fuse and the radio fuse when we did this. Check every fuse carefully, you will find the one that is the issue.
