Bike Rack on ST

I have readand been toldthattrailer bumpers are no designed to carry the load of bike racks/bikes. I also have been told that welding a reciever hitch to the frame of the trailer voids the warranty.

I've been thining about installing a front reciver hith on my truck to accomodate a bike rack. I generally will be carrying 2 to 4 bikes.

How have you dealt with the bike rack issue?

I've been thinking about the roof idea but my truck cap is not flat on top. It's one of those where it is higher at the tail gate and then narrows towards the cab. I do have a crew cab truck and wondered about putting it over the cab.

I'm assuming that would require a ladder?Are you able to loadand unload bikes by yourself?

I think I would make the camper mine and weld or bolt a hitch to the frame

I carry a portable folding ladder with me (a little giant style ladder). I use the ladder for loading and unloading the bikes. I bought it knowing that I needed some way to clean the sticks and pine cones off the top of my slides before retracting them. It is very handy for both purposes, but a bit bulky to carry.

I am able to load the bikes by myself. It is helpful to have someone standing nearby to hand the bike down to, but about 90% of the time I end up performing it solo.

I installed a front hitch receiver from Bodiak on my 2001 Excursion. They had the only front hitch receiver that didn't require the bumper to be removed for installation. It works great.
