Black flush

We had to take our ST270BH in for some minor issues and one major issue. Our black tank flush did not work. They replaced it and last weekend we took the trailer out and it didnt work. Didnt get a chance to crawl in there to look at it. Has anyone else had any issues? My understanding is simply connect the hose? Am I missing something?

No, you have it about right unless they have changed things over the years. It's simply a hose to a plastic fitting in the black tank that has a screen on it and sprays water. Personally I don't think they wash the tank well but they do fill the tank so you can dump it again when rinsing the tank out. What happens is while driving (especially when the tank in close to full) the water and TP slosh around which forces very small pieces to TP (fibers) into the plastic screen plugging it up. I have had to remove mine a few times to clean it out. Mine is close to the side of the RV (opposite the dump valve) and I can reach it without taking down the plastic membrane. I remove some of the side metal that holds the membrane and reach my hand in to remove the hose and fitting. Not sure where yours is located.

Thanks, I havent looked closely yet. I did get some schematics from CR so I plan on reviewing them and taking a look.

I could be your anti siphon valve inside the hose connector.

Is that something I can tell by looking at it or is it easy to remove?

It is easy to remove , just hose clamps and is located usually under the sink. it may be hooked up backwards. Even if your dealer changed it ,they may have just hooked it up the same way. there should be an arrow on it.
If not the prob I just posted a pic of a kinked hose that mine had .

Awesome thanks, I was thinking it might be a kinked hose but have not had a chance to crawl in. Will do this weekend hopefully I can resolve it without another trip back to the dealer.

Did you cut an access panel on that?

yes , but only after you unscrew the plastic and look inside . There are wires laying on it inside.

I had issue when I tried to use it with my water pressure valve in place. Removed that and it flushed away!
May need more water pressure?

It shouldn't need more pressure but that may also be a sign of a kinked hose at the connection in your unit.

it should not need too much pressure as the spray end only lets so much thru and excess pressure will spit out of anti-siphon/areator.

Hmmm I thought it needed a certain amount of pressure to get past the backflow valve?

What can cause the San-T-Flush vacuum breaker to leak?
A couple things that can cause the vacuum breaker to leak:
1. Low water pressure. You need enough water pressure (recommended at 40 psi) to move the mechanism inside. Without enough water pressure it will not seal and water can escape around the seal and come out the top.
2. Mineral deposits. When water evaporates or dries it leaves behind mineral deposits. Over time these deposits can build up inside and prevent the seal from sealing. For this reason I recommend our San-T-Bottle.
3. Debris. Any type of debris that goes in through the inlet can get stuck inside the vacuum breaker causing it to not seal off properly.


I know this is for a leak but it states it need a certain pressure to work the breaker?

Looks like "less" hose is your answer.

Wow , that kink was worse than mine. A 1/2 " garden hose connector will fix it , make sure you dip the ends of the hose in boiling water first as they are hard to get on the barb connector.
Should get some pics of to your dealer to show all techs as they should be aware of this problem . Also get the pic to whoever you deal with at Crossroads, or do like I did and email whoever you can find there . . Don't know if it will even help as I sent my pics 1 yr ago and it is still happening. (guess they don.t put 'quality alerts' out to their employees)

Could be worse. The Blue Ridge I had before had to have the black tank replaced when it was a month old because they cut the hose too short to the tank flush. It put the molded-in nipple on the black tank in a bind and broke it off going down the road, resulting in a bunch of wet insulation underneath the next time I used it. They throw these things together in a hurry. QC is pretty much non-existent in this industry.

Just as an aside, I take a shorter hose with us to do the flush. this way you don't have the regulator OR the inline filter to deal with. Didn't want to use up the filter capacity on just flushing and don't use a regulator when flushing.

I have a separate hose strictly used for flushing.
