We would like to install dual batteries in our rig over the winter.
Currently it has one group 27 deep cycle 12 volt but from looking at the mounting brackets the battery box sits in there will be no room for another?
I'm not quite ready to go out and get new 6 volt batteries yet as this one is still new.....just want to add another 12 volt until they wear out.
It looks to me the only way around this issue is to mount new battery rails on top of the frame?

Anyone else have this issue?

Ian

hey ...I have a 27 that came with mine and I added another one on the same framework , but I put the other battery on from front to back instead of side to side. Move the #27 all the way to the left(when looking at the trailer),cut the top part of the back angle iron bracket and bend flat . add a metal support under the cut angle iron to support. , put 2 more angle brackets from front to back bolted or welded. and add battery.
I'll try to get some pics for you

Harley,

That's a great idea thanks for the pics...... Like the battery switch as well and will add that to the plan. I was thinking of just a cutoff but like the one battery isolation idea!

Looks like you are using an Equalizer hitch? Hows that work with your 1500? Get any sway?

The e-quilzer works great ,no sway . I added the nylon bracket jackets to stop noise when turning and didn't notice any sway with them . I used to grease the brackets , but that only defeated the purpose of having an assembly that keeps your hands grease free...
Did you add an extra drawer above the 3 that are below the sink? Easy to do . I also added a wire closet shelf in the pass thru storage.

Thanks for the info on the equalizer.....I assume it is the 1k/10k version?
I currently have the hitch that was supplied by the dealer but want to move up. Been looking at the Equalizer and the new Andersen but feel drawn to go with the tried and true Equalizer. Nice to be able to get an actually no BS users review as opposed to the many armchair engineer discussion you seem to get a lot of on other forums.

Great mods.....the DW has been after me about the extra drawer so that is on the list as well and I do like the storage rack in the pass through storage. The pics are great really shows how to get it done

Thanks Harley!!!!

Ian

I have the Equal-I-Zer 1K/10K model and love it. Performed flawlessly over five seasons with the 30BH. Much better than a Reese which I had on a previous trailer. Online stores such as etralier.com can save much money vs. a dealer and the installation is pretty straight forward.

Harley,
Nylon Jackets? Can I ask what they are or where you got them. I too have the "noise" from my Equal-I-Zer when making turns and have tried greasing to no avail. Can you tell me more about this I wold do anything to get rid of that noise.

Thanks,
Jim

I would like to add the kitchen drawer also. Did you order directly from CrossRoads?

The equilizer part is called a 'bracket jacket' and your local dealer that sells the hitch should be able to get them . They are about $20 US

The drawer was part of my deal when I bought the trailer and the dealer got them from Crossroads, with all hardware included. Not sure the price but it matches the other drawers.

You can also get 'sway bracket jackets" from the store on www.equalizerhitch.com. $19.95.

Uh, which new wheels are you referring to? The Cougar's mine, the Toro's hers but it's wrapped up 'til the 25th.

Hi,

Not sure why you would buy 6 volt batteries if your dual 12 installwould not work.

I bought a trailer storage box from Harbor Freight that has a tapered front edge. Fits across the frame. Locks. I can put 2 large deep cycle 12vts and shutoffin it. Works great.
