fridge question

I have a 2012 Sunset trail 31BH... Does my fridge run on battery
while hauling?

If you have a 3-way fridge, it could, but I doubt that you do. More then likely a 2-way. Which would have to run on LP when you are traveling.

How will I know if it is a 3 way? If i run on LP, would the flame not blowout on the highway?

It it's a 3-way you will have a setting on the front so you can switch to 12 V.
No, they "normally" don't blow out traveling down the road.
Just be aware----some places don't allow lite appliances. Like tunnels for one. Also, you will have to remember to shut it off when ever you stop for fuel, otherwise it could cause one BIG explosion. It will be the owners responsibility to know where and when you can't run with the LP operating.

Your fridge will be fine during hauling. When it is connected to the truck, the fridge actually feeds off the truck alternator and keeps it cold. I use the house power 2 days before going anywhere (get the fridge cold first) then hook it up to the truck just before leaving, no propane is necessary until you disconnect the plug from the truck if you don't have an external power source to plug into.

I thought only a 3-way fridge ran off the battery while hauling. We had one a couple of units ago, but I'm pretty sure they are AC or propane only, mostly.

3-way fridge units are very rare, almost all standard units installed in today's rvs are 2-way. As such, a 2-way fridge needs either propane or 110v AC to operate. 12v DC only is not sufficient for the cooling system to operate, it needs the propane burner or the 110v AC heater for the ammonia to work. If it did work on just 12v DC, being hooked to the truck would not make a difference, the coach battery would power the fridge.

I might add that three way RV refrigerators are the most expensive and not likely to be found on lower priced RVs.

I too never pull down the road with propane on. I also have never had a problem on long trips with food in the fridge or even ice cream in the freezer. Edited by: Big smokey

I had my unit hooked up to house electricity for about 6wks, decided to go camp in Feb in Texas. (Our weather permits this....) but could not get the refrigerator to turn on with the electric hooked up. So turned it to gas and it would work fine. Any ideas as to what the matter is....? Went camping and stayed on gas whole time. No problems.

Check to make sure you have power to the receptacle that the fridge is plugged into. Could be a blown fuse or tripped breaker.

we checked for blown fuses none, the light in the unit works. So I believe it is getting power.

Good info. Only three way works to cool off 12 volt power source. If you start out with a cold fridge you can travel with propane off. Things will stay at a good temp for quite a while. It is easy to forget you have the fridge on when you stop for fuel.

plug something electrical into the plug that the fridge is plugged into in the outside grill area to verify electric power to the plug. control panel works on battery.

I had a similar issue with the fridge not turning on when connected to shore power. I reset the fridge and it came on right away.

I have a Norcold with a 628661 power board. I found the reset procedures online. I've attached the pdf of the procedure in case you have a similar model.

My 2011 30RE has a 2 way fridge. It does require 12 VDC when operating on LPG.

Fridge panel does require 12 volt DC to control burner when operating on propane
