Heads up on problem with roof seam

Just picked up my new 2014 Sunset Trail ST270 a few weeks ago. Our second trip in it was down to Myrtle Beach for spring break. While we were there, we noticed that the track along the roof that connects the front of the camper to the roof up along the roofline was coming loose. Major issue, since if it rained this would allow water to leak into the camper. We contacted the dealer, who then contacted Crossroads and they agreed to reimburse us for a local company to do an on-site repair. The person repairing it seemed very knowledgeable, and when he went up to check out the problem found that almost every single screw holding the track down had the head snapped off. According to him it's likely that there's a machine at the factory that is overtightening the screws. Basically all that was holding the whole track down was the sealant. Just giving everyone out there a heads up since I think it's likely that if it happened to our trailer it's happened to a lot of others out there. Might be worth having the dealer check it out the next time you're back!

Thanks for the heads up Goldengirl. Will have to get on a ladder to check out that seam.

There we go again with over torqued screws, just like the over torqued screws that attach the shower skylite and crack it.
When will these guys assembling these units figure out how to use tools and start to care.

As I am presently doing a repair on the seam between the roofing and the fiberglass front cap, I removed the metal channel applied to joint in order to thoroughly removed all old sealant. None of the screws were broken, but a couple were stripped to where they just spun in the hole. Maybe they had better quality screws in 2011. Now on my unit, the front cap stands proud of the roofing surface by about 3/16". The metal channel is c or u shaped and one leg is longer than the other leg. See attached dwg. My guess would be the longer leg would go on the roofing material, or towards the back of the trailer and the shorter leg would go on the cap. I found it attached the other way. I have the channel at home and have cleaned and repainted it and when I reinstall it, I will put it the opposite of the way the factory installed it and use SS screws.

Why not give CR a call before reinstalling. If I was in doubt, that's what I would do.

I could see them installing it backwards, whatever way it is handed up to the guy on the roof would be the way it is installed....get it out the door and let the dealer or us fix it later.

I really have no doubt LLoyd. I plan to install it with the longer edge on the roofing material.

I have not had a lot of luck contacting CR. Second owner of unit with no warranty you know. I can see daylight at the bottom of both sides of my slide. I contacted CR asking for info. on adjustment stating my literature package contained a one page product description which said Premier Slide-Out Sealing System by PEI/LTi Flexible Products. The reply was they had never heard of them and asked me to send a scan of the page. I scanned the page, sent it and never heard another word.

What track and seam are y'all talking about? Is this just something on TTs, or is it on 5ers too?

The black piece of trim where your front cap meats the rubber roof.

I also have found this same issue on my 2014 lincoln. There was 2 screws broken and 1 stripped. Luckily I found this prior to any rain. It wasn't like it a couple of weeks ago and I put a pretty good twist on my camper when backing up a hill into my rv cover. It is a very challenging spot inbetween 2 differerent inclines which causes camper to twist. I have now contact an excavator to build a road that I can circle around my rv cover and pull in and pull out straight. I repaired the roof myself with new screws and new sealant.

Thanks for the information. Our 2012 camper is in having the back replaced due to a problem with it separating from the roof, an adhesion problem they say. It is now out of warranty. I have had no reply to my e-mail to CR so I guess I will call them. This might be causing the problem. Other than this we love ours and are counting the days until it gets home.
