Exclamation heads up...safety link

Just a heads up for all 5th wheelers.......
We just returned from a short trip away which we had a great time with some of the family showing for a big bbq. Cooked so much on the bbq that it turned into a grease pit so on the way home I put it in the way back of the truck so as not to leak all over everything.
After getting off the freeway just a couple miles from home I stopped at the right turn to merge and all of a sudden BANG !! The trailer just slams stopped. I thought I ran into something or somebody hit me.....Got out to look around and nothing...back in the truck I notice the trailer brake is full on....
I get back out and look in the bed to see that the bbq has rolled to the side and pulled the safety link out engaging the trailer brakes full !! Thank god it didn't do that on the freeway.... Plugged it back in and was able to proceed home.
They sure work !!
Just a safety watch for all .....Make sure the safety link is clear of any potential objects that might pull it away.

This is a great reminder especially for those new at hauling a 5th wheel like me.

Thanks Randy

I'm actually afraid to put anything in the bed when towing the 5er.... then again, I'm still afraid to tow the 5er.

I won't be so skeered once I do it. I was the same way with the tt. I freak until I do it and then I'm fine.

Had that happen a couple of times, once it got hooked around the release lever as I was pulling out of the campsite. Couldn't figure out why I couldn't move the trailer. The second time was a piece of firewood bounced and caught the cable and pulled it out. I have since bought the coiled cable. That keeps it up and out of the way of everything.

I had it happen twice with nothing in the box - caught the slider.
Replaced the cable with one of these. No problems since. Highly recommend.

I had it happen once, slid the slider back to turn hard into storage spot--man couldn't get it to move, what the heck is wrong got out looked around the back of the 5'r walking back up to the cab noticed the break pin out, the cable got pinched in the slide and pulled out. Whew, that was easy fix compared to some of the thoughts going around in my head.

Its happened to me a few times, usually just catching on the 5th wheel hitch. Someone on this forum I have met in person (can't remember his handle) showed me how he corrected this. Ran the cable thru a flexible clear plastic hose and bungee corded it to the pin box. The bungee cord keeps it up and the hose makes it more difficult to snag on anything. So far so good.

I use the same one after having issues with the cables on pervious trailers. It's a great product.
