We recently purchased our 30RK. We have been on 2 weekend trips and I have fallen in love. I am reading all the post about the issues and hoping we do not run into any of these problems. Did a few mods- shelves in bedroom closets, paper towel holder, some towel hooks in bathroom. Best mod has been the light switch in the bedroom. No more climbing on the bed to turn on the light. Still trying to figure out the satellite tv and where to put the toilet paper. Hoping to learn how to post pictures soon. Happy Camping.

Glad to hear you area enjoying your new unit...don't get paranoid over issues that haven't happened yet, it can get discouraging reading problem posts. Remember that people generally start topics because they have a problem or concern, we don't often hear from the problem free people but it's great to read positive posts like yours.

These are the directions for installing the light switch. Purchased a light switch from the rv center. From the light fixture above the bed, I cut the hot line. Then fished two wires through the ceiling and down the wall to where the new light switch would be located. Cut a hole in the wall for the new switch and connected the wires. Hope this helps.

DonCon,
I also just purchased a 30RK. Thanks for the directions on the light switch. I'm going have to do that mod.
I put the TP holder on the inside of the vanity door.

I just came back from a weekend trip, temp dropped down to 29f one night.

Awesome! Wealso loveour ST30RK. It is just an excellent floor plan for our purposes. The only small issue we have had was with the Santi-flush leaking behind the wall. The dealer kind-of fixed it. I'll give it another look next year.

I love the idea of the switch in the bedroom. I seriously don't understand why they didn't include this feature. They put one in the bathroom and it's an easier reach than crawling over the bed. My best mod has been a latch to hold up the toilet seat lid. The way the toilet is positioned in the corner just doesn't promote it staying open...especially when using it.

Can't wait to get the trailer out again next Spring!

About the light in the bed area , I added 2 single lights (1 each side)in front of the mirrored wardrobe doors and just jumped the wires from the light over the bed . There is alot of room to run wires because the lowered panel that the double light is attached to . . Now you only have to reach up and not have to lean over the bed. It also gives more light to see inside wardrobe and overhead cabinets.

Hi All,

We picked up our 2012 30RK on Sept 20th. Enjoy reading these posts and the varity of mod ideas. Will try some of them next spring, and may post a few of my own, as I think of them.

Hi ,

As long as we're talkin' about the 30 RK, what are you-all pulling them with? I have a 2012 Ford F150 Platinum powered with the Ecoboost V6, and the trailer tow package. Can't beat it for power and torque. At the dealership, after going over all the features of the camper, we hooked her up via a Equalizer Brand hitch. Our rep was saying to drive around the lot and set the brakes to where I liked them, and come back if there were any towing problems. I said "OK", and took my foot off the brake peddle. BEFORE I got my foot to the gas peddle, we were rolling. I said "WOHA, did you see that?" The rep said "What?". I said, "Watch this". and did it again. The F150 Ecoboost is a great tow vehicle for this size trailer.

Still loving our 30RK. The set up was great when we had a rainy cold camping weekend. Invited fellow campers over and watched a football game with the fireplace going.
We also added some plexiglass panels to the screen door so now we can keep the door open when the furnace or air conditioner is running.

DonCon,
I have heard and seen that many people put the plexiglass in so they can keep the door open and see out. Can you give me some kind of an idea about how you did that? I'd appreciate it very much.

thanks,
Jim

Wow! 9mpg? I expected to hear more than that. I get a 9-10 average pulling with my 2004 Titan.

Will,

I guess I have a "light" foot. I keep it around 50-55mph and let up a little on the hills. Getting 12-14 mpg.

Check out the rv.net sight. Do a search under modifications for storm door or screen door. Many variations of this mod. We hold our plexiglass in with velcro while others use different types of clips. It is one of my favorite mods that we have done.

Beautiful TT ! I like the large window. After a year of ownership, we are very pleased overall with our Sunset Trail Reserve and have really enjoyed it.Glad to hear you are very pleased as well. We still would make the same choice today. And +1 for the Ford F150 Ecoboost we have had a year also. The torque curve and towing is great for a half ton. We get about 22mpg hwy without TT and 10-11MPG with TT mostly flat in Georgia at about 62-65 MPH.

Happy Camping!

To All,

As we've all said, we love the 30RK. But what made you decide on this floor plan? We were looking at a rear living, RL, or a rear entertainment, RE, then we saw the RK. With so much more counter space in the RK, for us it was the one. We also thought seating was much better in the RK than the RL as far as the TV goes. The RL wasn't bad, butcounter space won out on that one too.

Any one else?
