Month long trip -- mold/Fungus question

Hi,

Just got back from spending the whole month of July in the NC mountains with the family. The North Carolina summer has been hot, so it was wonderful up in the mountains.
This is the first time we've been away for such a long period of time.
When I got home I started cleaning up the rig and noticed, in the outside kitchen sink, something green growing in the little plastic trap. What probably happened is some food go caught in there and a bit of water. I cleaned it out, but it got me thinking. Could there be mold/fungus in the water lines or in the gray tank? I'm sure food sometimes gets down the drain.
Is this a concern and if so, what's the best way to deal with it?

Thanks,
mike

Yeah, dumping some bleach down the drain will clean up the gray tank, but is there any concern about something being in the water lines (fungus) that would need to be handled? I guess not, otherwise the same issue would happen to people with their home water lines, and you never hear of that.

I think you have a very legitimate concern.
Home water lines usually have a greater volume of water going thru them. It's not just sitting there like it some times does in an RV.

That's why I sanitize our water system each spring and usually before each trip.
The fresh water tanks on an RV never gets completely emptied. Some of the lines have a loop or low spot that water can set there and get mold growing. So in my opinion, that whole thing with the fresh water system is a place for trouble to start if not properly disinfected periodically.

As Lloyd has stated, I do believe that this is a very legitimate concern as well.
I also agree with Nachtmsk and fhenn, I think running some bleach down your line will help with your concern.

If you would like some more input or more assistance with this issue, I would be glad to put you in touch with a CrossRoads Tech Rep for further knowledge.

Good luck and please keep us in the loop on your decision and outcome!

Journey on!
