Haha yes, but I would go over my payload anytime before leaving those behind!

We have a Ram 15000 Big Horn Hemi with trailer packages and the 25 sunset trail rb. Works well for us, but we camp in Florida, pretty flat, but we do take bikes and kayaks on our trips with the trailer pretty well loaded up. We get about 11-13 miles per gallon, love our truck. Really love our trailer also. So much storage for these long trips.

Hey,
I'm also getting the St270BH, didn't pick it up yet though, waiting until March. I'll be towing it with a Tundra 5.7L and I was also still hitch shopping. The dealer suggested the Anderson hitch but I think I'll be going with the same Equalizer that you mentioned. I'd be curious to know what kind of a deal you got on the 2710, Private message me and we can swap prices (you can't post prices here on the open forum).
Are you going to get Tow Mirrors? Or maybe your vehicle already has them?
Cheers!
Mike

What hitch are you using? That's a very similar set up to what we will have in weights and size. Only difference I can see on paper (haven't confirmed this yet) is that our Outdoorsman will ride about 1" lower than your Big Horn and we will be running on LT tires instead of the standard 20" tires Ram likes to use.

This is nearly the same exact setup that I am looking for, except in the 3.0l diesel engine. How has it towed so far?

Don't know yet, will be getting the trailer on April 7th. I can tell you the truck is very nice with the Hemi. TONS of power. I think you'll be impressed with truck. I was interested in the new diesel engine but the fact they kept bumping back the availability for trucks with this engine scared me off a bit, plus the fact it's the first year with this power train. Not going to buy something I can't test drive first. Good luck with it if you get one, would love to hear your feedback on the package. FYI, I got the Outdoorsman trim, seemed to fit the needs of our application well, you may want to consider it. Watch your differential ratios, don't get sucked into too low of a number, towing ability suffers greatly. We ordered ours and custom built it the way we wanted it, took 8 weeks almost to the day.

Just test drove a 1500 Diesel today. I didn't get for the following reasons...

1) No Integrated Trailer Brake. That is a deal breaker.
2) No Trailer Tow Mirrors. Deal breaker #2
3) 3.55 gears instead of 3.92 gears. 1000lb difference in tow rating.
4) Not an Outdoorsman with the LT tires. This is not a deal breaker, as I would get aftermarket rims and tires.
5) Bucket seats instead of 40/20/40 bench seat. Again, not a must have, but we occasionally want to have 6 people to go places and not want to take 2 vehicles.

The payload on the Diesel is nearly the same. The GVW on the diesel is 150lbs higher.

I still want to hear how the OP will do on towing and what type of terrain. But I am patient and can wait.

I read one review that put it at 1000#, but I don't know how the truck was equipped otherwise. That could be all the difference if it was a high trim level with all the bells & whistles

I correct myself. The web site says 200lbs less, but that will be determined with a trip to the CAT scales.
