Paint vinyl wallpaper

Hi All,
Has anyone tried painting the interior of their travel trailer? It is so dark that sometimes we need the interior lights on during the day.

The wall and ceiling wallpaper appears to be vinyl. We need to know what kind of paint to use. Also did you prime the paper first, or paint over the top?

Any worthwhile comments would be appreciated.

We have been to our local paint guy thought Zinsser smart prime would be a good start and then use an acrylic water based paint.

I personally haven't painted the inside of an RV but have done some painting in mobile homes which use about the same stuff. The stuff I have used is KILZ Primers, Specialty Paints & Concrete Stains and then used a good quality latex paint. It worked good on the vinyl wall board in the mobile homes so I would assume it would work good on the RV walls as well.
