possible owner of 29SS…advice please

New to the forum here. I'm looking at purchasing a used (1 owner) 2012 sunset trail 29ss this saturday for the deer lease. I have been looking for about 3-4 months for a good condition used travel trailer and let me just say it has been very difficult. I have finally found one I think that is in good condition and taken care of...Needless to say I still have a couple things I'm a little worried about and wanted some input from current owners.

1. seems to be a lot of light rust underneath trailer…gas line, leaf springs, bolts, welds, and underneath the frame where belly bolts to frame...not sure if it is from being pulled during a rainstorm or if this is something that could have been in a hurricane or flood??

2. seems to be a slight bulge in the sealed underbelly by passenger side axles near gas line??

Any input on these things would be great along with advice on what else to look for that you guys have seen go wrong with this type of trailer

The rust is normal for a used trailer these days. It looks to be in very good shape otherwise. I can't help with the bulge in the underside, could just be where some plumbing hangs down. An owner with a similar unit could tell better.

The more common issues with these units are the Schwintek slide mechanisms. Thoroughly check the slide operation on all of them by putting them in and out three or four times to make sure they run smoothly. Are you buying from a dealer? Any warranty? If private sale and the slides give you issues there are a lot of threads here on how to fix or troubleshoot problems.

The rust is normal. Rusty metal primer and a good top coat will fix that. The bump hanging down could be nothing more than a pipe hanging low like WWWest said or maybe has some water in it. If there is any edge of the cover open and not sealed the water could come in from there. Again, not a problem that cannot be looked at by removing some screws on the hold down for the belly cover and looking in with a flashlight.
Good luck.

Buying it from an individual…lets hope there aren't slide problems. Will find out Saturday after I thoroughly check it out. I understand the roofs on these units is not one you can walk on?? Noticed also that the stove/oven is an Amana?? Never heard of this as trailers I've owned always had attwood or surburban stoves. He claims it is the original stove though. Any other tips about these trailers??
