Over the years I have seen, and used two different size sockets for the drain plugs.
Previously it was 7/8 in. now it's 15/16 in.
If you don't own a socket wrench set, I would highly recommend that you invest in a set.
You will be needing it in the future. That way you will have the complete set there and be able to see which one fits your drain plug.
Replace the plug with one of these for $10. Then you simple open the valve with your fingers.
