ST33PB towing question

Hi All,

I will be picking up my st33pb in a few months. I am so excited! So 2 questions. If anyone owns this model how do you like it? Question 2. I will be towing this with a Nissan Armada SUV. Will I have any problems? Thanks Campers!

Welcome to the forum.

I didn't see a ST33PB. Did you mean ST33BD?
If so, I think you will have more trailer there then your Armada is going to like.

Welcome to the forum. Good luck with your ST. What are the towing specs for your Armada?? Like Lloyd said, might be a little more than your Armada can handle.

THank you for your responses. The st33pb weighs 7680 and my suv can tow 9000. What gets me concerned is the gross weight. I'm not exactly sure what that is, but the gross weight for the st33pb is over 9000 lbs.

Congrats on the new trailer.
I have a 2010 Armada With the towing pkg and adjustable air system in the back. Supposed to be rated to tow 9500, but I've never used it to tow my trailer.
One thing you'll need to keep in mind, everyone and everything inside the vehicle takes away from your 9500 lbs, along with fuel. It adds up quick.

Gross weight is RV dry weight plus carrying capacity. Which includes water, propane tanks, and anything you put inside
Total of not more than 9618.

Also keep in mind that the Armada has a very short wheelbase, especially for a 37' long trailer.

after you load up with cargo some water and such you will be pushing close to 9000lbs, your toung weight will be up around 1200lbs. I dont know what your cargo capacity is on the Armada, but it seems to me you will be at or maybe slightly over your vehicles capabilities. I was towing the ST28BH at 6400 lbs dry 7400lbs loaded with a toung weight of 1000lbs with a length of 32 feet using an F150 and I was pretty much maxed out. drove over the scales and was at my max gross combined weight for truck and trailer. It towed great, but I could not get anything larger thats for sure.

I'm not trying to be discouraging but I would also be concerned about the strength of the shocks and springs on the Armada. We upgraded to an F250 to pull our trailer. I suppose if you have a good weight distribution/sway control hitch, it might be OK.

I have SOB travel trailer right now, but joined this forum because I like a lot of the Crossroads product and wanted to research them more. My current trailer is 32ft total (hitch to bumper), and have weights that spec out pretty close to yours. It is considered a light weight trailer, so I thought my 2000 GMC 1500 truck could pull it just fine. And to be honest, it did ok, but i just felt like it was struggling more than I would like. Stuggling to hold the weight and stop efficiently were my two issues I had.

But then I upgraded to a 2007 Silverado 2500HD. I cannot begin to explain the differences in pulling with my 3/4 ton truck. It is so much more stable, and I personally, feel much more safe when I am pulling now. Safe in regards to the truck being able to better handle the weight, but also the stopping power is much greater on my 3/4 ton.

This is just my opinion and you can do what you want, but I feel that an upgrade in tow vehicle in the near future might be your best option.

When my husband and I went truck shopping, we had already decided we wanted an F250 quad cab. My dad had pulled fifth wheels for years and always told us to avoid being underpowered. The first dealership we went to had several rows of F150 ecoboost trucks. He had one or two F250. He had no F250 quads. The two he had were a regular cab and an extened cab. The salesman tried to sell us one of the many F150. We told him we didn't want an F150 because we travel in the mountains and didn't want to be underpowered. He kept saying the F150 would pull our trailer anywhere we would want to go. We got so aggrevated with him, we finally just left the dealership. The salesmen will tell you about anything to sell you a truck they have in inventory. Do your research, know what you need/want and don't settle based on a salesman's word. We had the same experience a few years ago when we bought a Ranger pick-up to pull a 12 ft. pop-up. It was fine on the flats of Kansas but when we tried to pull over a Colorado pass, we could barely hit 15 mph.

Jill, That particular salesman was correct. The correctly set up Eco-Boost will pull your trailer any place you wish to go.

We feel better having the heavy duty features of the F250. I just know, from experience, how frustrating it is pulling a trailer up a Colorado pass with a truck that is underpowered. I'm glad you guys have had good experiences with your F150 ecoboost trucks. I know lots of people love their diesel trucks. I don't like the noise or odor from the diesel and prefer a gasoline engine. I guess it is good we have a lot of choices when it comes to a tow vehicle.
