Sunset Trail Reviews

We are returning our 2014 sunset trail after 2 week ownership and no chance to camp in it due to slide issues. Thankfully the dealer is taking it back.

We are now camperless and bummed as we LOVE to camp. Camp March-Nov and sometimes 2xs a month! Missed 1 trip already and will probably miss Memorial Day weekend.

If you had to do it again would you buy another Sunset Trail? Are all the super slides crap?

We loved the floor plan and are obviously on the hunt for another camper.

TIA

We just bought (2 weeks ago) our 2017 SS254RB and live it so far - too soon to have any "issues". After lots of research and shopping, I feel the ST is a lot of trailer for the money - I definitely recommend this line!

I have a 2013 ST Reserve 32RL 5th wheel. Yes, it has slide issues. Both the dinette slide and the kitchen side slide have had issues. From my perspective as an owner, the slides were too heavy for the Schwintek system to handle.

The slides on our 2015 33BD have worked well so far. I do think the kitchen slide needs adjustment as it started making a jerky movement as it was retracted at the end of our last trip. I will do that next weekend. As far as buying another Sunset Trail, I would as long as the quality is still decent. I doubt there is any TT manufacturer building any better as it's what the market allows. I have repaired several things that shouldn't have needed to be repaired if constructed properly, but once fixed, all is well.

I was experiencing the same problem on my kitchen side slide. Turns out the slide gear track was worn and a couple of tract teeth were chipped and missing at the outer edge of the slide track (retracted slide). Ended up replacing the tracks and gear motors. Problem solved. Not a cheap fix for sure.

Bought our 2012 ST25RB brand new, all worked fine till we got back home from Myrtle beach last year, and slide would not open. Started to open then one side seemed to bind then motors both stopped. Retracted back in, then tried to open again and same thing. $1800 later......and everything remained in bathroom till slide repaired. (Bathroom inaccessible with slide closed). Wish we could choose slide mechanism type when purchasing as an option, definitely wouldn't order either the Shwintek or the Bal cable type. Always nervous when pushing slide button for fear of not working. I always hook up to shore power at campsite (30amp) or at home (15amp) before operating slide....and per Lippert never stop slide mid travel, always open or close to the max, then hold button for 10 seconds at end of travel to "zero sync" the motors. Wish we were told that when we did PDI.

We have a 2014 33BD and no issues so far with the slide, love the amount of space we have. I think just like with a house, there are always things you'd like to change after you've camped in a few times.

Just opened the trailer up this weekend, all seemed well (fingers crossed). Will certainly be keeping a close eye on things. Sorry to hear about your slide problems.

I have a one month old 2016 SS222RB. NO issues with the slide. I will say it is the worst $23,000 I have ever spent. This thing is the biggest pile of junk and the Dealer leaves a lot to be desired. The sofa is rickety and about to fall apart. The caulk around the cabinet doors is all dried up and falling off. Everything about it is cheap and lowest grade of material available. I would NEVER buy this brand again even if they offered it at cost which I'm sure is a lot less than what I paid. And don't even call Crossroads for assistance. Three times I have called them and they are totally clueless. Find another brand is my recommendation.

2017 SS26 SI. Bought new in March. Have been out 3 times so far including a 6 inch howling snowstorm. Other than a few items initially that were not done by the dealer, we have had no issues with ours. I love the auto level system.

2013 ST29SS. No issues other than routine maintenance catching things before they became an issue.

Thank you everyone for taking the time to reply

We were a little gun shy of the brand after buying and returning our 2014 We did go to see a few but none had the floor plan we liked and the dealer said they are discontinuing the st32rl which is the floorplan we liked.

We have ordered a Laredo 330rl and hope to have it by June. The slides aren't as deep so there is less room in the lr area but maybe shallow slides are better repair/break wise.

Missing all our May trips and REALLY looking forward to camping this year. Thankfully we did our annual April trip in our 2001 Nomad!!

Thanks again,
Rose

To answer your question No. I'm upside down on mine. Dealer offered me 13k as a trade in. So now I'm stuck.
