Water Heater

Have a 2013 31BH...Water heater electric is out, but gas works just fine. Easy fix?

Have you checked the breaker?

I'm going to assume that you checked, and cycled the breaker ( turned it off them back on).

Then it has to be either a bad element, or thermostat.

Drain the water heater
Turn off the power
Access the back -it should be under your nightstand
Remove old element or thermostat.
Install new part (obtained from amazon or rv dealer)
Refill, turn water on, and
Profit

Not a dumb question at all! Some manufacturers, in order to keep the number of AC circuits down, force you to choose to route power either to the water heater for electrical heating, or to the fireplace. If you need both, use propane for the water heater.

Hmmm, so running my water heater on the gas will still allow it to heat water even if I have the switch on Fireplace or Off? (Just want to make sure I understand correctly, I have it on the water heater setting currently, but I only have the gas switch turned on for it not the electric?)

On modern RV two-way (gas and electric) water heaters, you can switch on either gas, or electric, or both. 12VDC from the RV's power supply/battery provides the CONTROL voltage to the heater. The temperature thermostat controls both the 120VAC going to the electric heater element, and to the gas control. The switch (usually a red one on/near the tank sensor readout panel) has to be on for whichever you want to use. If, however, your TT also has a fireplace, and a fireplace/water heater switch, then the electric supply from that red switch will be routed to whichever choice is made. Therefore, if that power is running the fireplace, it is not available to provide heater power to run the electric side of the water heater. The gas side will still work. As a personal note, I prefer to heat water with gas, i.e. a flame heats the water faster than an electric element, in my opinion.

Yes you understand it correctly. On a 30 amp service you have to choose between running the HWH on electric or using the fireplace. The HWH will work on gas either way.

I took my ST26RB out for first time yesterday and discovered the same thing. My electric switch for the water heater would not light up. I finally figured out I had to choose water heater at the below fireplace/water heater switch before turning on the electric water heater switch. Works fine now. Must be a common learning curve.

On a side note, I have one ceiling vent not pushing any air. It is the closest one to the air conditioner. I'm thinking a duct may be loose?
