Waxing Front Cap

I've read several posts about the fading issue on the chocolate brown front cap. My 30RE in only a year old and it is stored indoors during our brutal Nova Scotia winters.

I did try to wax the cap last summer but couldn't reach the top third with the step ladder - due to the backward slope. I know other people have waxed these caps ....... Just wondering how they do it.

Had my thinner than me wife climb up on the roof and and laying down across the roof was able to Wax that top third from there, After that I was able to get the rest with step ladders.

A lighter helper is a real advantage!

lower the front of the TT as far as you can , and this will make it easier.

I have not done it yet, but thought about lowering it as far as I can and then taking two stepladders and a 2x6 and making some scaffolding?

We had to have our repainted. Crossroads took care of it and today we waxed it by putting a ladder up close and it came out beautiful. Looks like brand new. Waxed the whole unit and all the black aluminum came out like new. We are ready to head out camping .

Lower the front end as much as you can. That always helped me reach the top of the cap on our 5th wheel. I also use one of those "little giant" style ladders. You can have the side closest to the rv completely vertical and angle the other side. That will allow you to get a little closer. I will say the cap on the Sunset Trails is really "swept back" at the top and looks like it is hard to reach unless you are on the roof. I wished I lived somewhere that I could wax my camper in February!

Rent a scaffold for the day. My local rental place charges about $50 for the weekend. Be sure to keep the cap as cool as possible, in the shade if you can. Depending on your product of choice they can be very temperature sensitive. I would highly recommend using a clay bar on the surface first before you start applying your wax. If you really want to protect it I would skip the wax and consider a sealer like optiseal.

Back up your truck and place the ladder on the truck's bed....

I have a telescopic handle and a srub brush and a dust mop bottom that I fix to the handle .I use mothers detailing wax just spray on the rag and wipe . Works great and you don't need to climb any ladders. Call it lazy if you want but me and ladders don't get along very well.

I bit the bullet, slapped on the old knee pads and crab walked my way around that roof when I washed and treated it by hand. While I was up there, I layed down and was able to reach the top 2' to 3' of roof by reaching over. The rest was done with a ladder from below.

I used a good Carnuba wax, and did 2 coats on the cap. I used the proper wax where you have to rub it in, let it haze then buff it. Not sure if it will make any difference. Hopefully I don't get any fading!

Curious if you had Crossroads repaint your cap? We're scheduled to take ours there in May for a repaint too. I think they are going to have Topeka Graphics do the painting. Is that who did yours? Good results? thanks

Taking min in on the 15th. It is just starting to show some signs in the upper right hand corner. Service manager acknowledge it is a common problem on the phone and may need repainted. Will let you know what is decided.

X2 to what Dan said. I backed my truck up as far as I could, then I have a Little Giant ladder and I was able to reach all the way up. Good luck.
